In celebration of World Family Doctor Day 2026, the Department of Family and Community Medicine UHS-UPLB in cooperation with Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs successfully conducted the “Arangkada Alalay” Community Outreach Program for UPLB jeepney drivers.
The event was hosted by Chief Resident Dr. Christine Baybay-Juaneza, with welcome remarks delivered by Training Officer Dr. Nelson Agapay Jr.. Dr. Agapay highlighted the significance of celebrating World Family Doctor Day and shared the message: “Ang tunay na pag-unlad ay di nasusukat sa teknolohiya lamang kundi sa lalim ng ating malasakit sa kapwa.”
Chancellor Jose V. Camacho Jr. expressed his appreciation for the invaluable contribution of UPLB jeepney drivers to the university community, as well as the dedication and service of the UHS doctors, nurses, and staff.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Atty. Eric Peralta conveyed his gratitude to the UPLB jeepney drivers for their continued service and sacrifice for the UPLB community. He also assured them that the OVCCA will continue to support and assist them during this national crisis.
As part of the outreach activity, the UHS Nutritionist - Dietician Ms. Desiree P. Reyes conducted a lay forum for the jeepney drivers focusing on the importance of proper meal planning, healthy eating habits, and regular exercise despite the demands of their work. The session emphasized understanding balanced nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to help prevent chronic illnesses and promote overall well-being.
Through the “Arangkada Alalay” outreach program, a total of 25 jeepney drivers received free health screening services including blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol testing, and were provided consultations by family doctors.
The activity served as a meaningful celebration of community service, preventive healthcare, and compassionate family medicine alongside the observance of World Family Doctor Day 2026.
The second “Arangkada Alalay” outreach activity is scheduled on 22 May 2026.
