REGULATORY AGENCIES, PHARMACY SECTOR LEADERS AND ACADEME CONVENE FOR PILOT REGULATORY SANDBOX ON FLEXIBLE SUPERVISION OF CATEGORY A PHARMACIES

26 May 2026 | PRC-NCR Office, Eton Centris, Quezon City

The Technical Working Group (TWG) led by the PRC-Board of Pharmacy and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) along with Philippine Pharmacists Association, Inc. (PPhA); Drugstores Association of the Philippines (DSAP); and UP College of Pharmacy convened today for the 2nd TWG Meeting on the proposed Pilot Regulatory Sandbox for the Flexible Supervision of Category A Pharmacies.

The multi-sectoral discussion focused on the proposed implementing guidelines and implementation roadmap aimed at addressing pharmacy workforce gaps while safeguarding patient safety and regulatory compliance. The initiative seeks to explore technology-enabled supervision models, evidence-based policy reforms, and enhanced pharmacy service accessibility in selected pilot areas nationwide.

Among the key matters discussed were pharmacist-to-pharmacy ratios, competency development and upskilling of pharmacy assistants, pilot site selection, ethical and operational safeguards, research methodologies, and the role of independent evaluation to be led by the UP College of Pharmacy.

The TWG also reaffirmed its commitment to finalize the proposed terms of reference by end June 2026 as part of a phased implementation strategy designed to support responsive, innovative and future-ready pharmacy regulation in the Philippines.

The Philippine Pharmacists Association, Inc. officially announces the results of the 2026 Special Election for the Pharmaceutical Sciences Section Representative.

With 86 votes (43.65%), 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗬. 𝗟𝗲𝗲 emerged as the duly elected Pharmaceutical Sciences Section Representative.

A total of 197 votes were cast out of 390 registered voters, reflecting a 50.51% voter turnout.

The PPhA extends its sincere gratitude to all candidates and members who participated in this important electoral process. Your engagement and commitment continue to strengthen participatory leadership and unity within the profession.

𝐏𝐏𝐡𝐀 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐤𝐚 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥

On May 11, 2026, the Philippine Pharmacists Association Inc. (PPhA) actively participated in the Congressional Hearing on the proposed eBotika Bill, reinforcing the critical role of pharmacists in shaping a safe, accessible, and patient-centered digital healthcare ecosystem.

Representing PPhA were Ms. Jingle Garcia Diola, Section Chair for Pharmaceutical Practice and Co-Chair of Taskforce PAGASA, together with Dr. Erwin Faller, Section Chair for Pharmaceutical Science and Chair of Taskforce PAGASA. During the hearing, they emphasized that pharmacists must remain at the center of digital pharmaceutical care — ensuring medication safety, proper patient counseling, regulatory compliance, and continuity of care in the evolving digital health landscape.

PPhA likewise called for stronger recognition and support for the pharmacy profession, including the long-overdue salary upgrading for pharmacists who continue to serve as vital healthcare frontliners across all sectors.

A formal Position Paper from PPhA was also dutifully submitted to the Committee in support of policies that uphold patient safety, responsible digitalization, and equitable access to medicines.

PPhA remains committed to advancing legislation that strengthens the pharmacy profession while safeguarding the health and welfare of every Filipino.
