PATH works with employers and communities to help people 55+ stay active, curious, and connected through learning, mentoring, and real-life experiences.
📘 Learn more. 🌐 Engage. 🤝 Join the PATH! PATH – Planning Active Transitions for Healthy Ageing – is a 30-month Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Adult Education (KA220-ADU), running from September 2025 to February 2028. The project supports peo

ple aged 55+ in staying active, curious, and connected through learning, mentoring, and real-life experiences. PATH promotes active ageing and lifelong learning while helping employers and policymakers build inclusive, age-friendly environments. It turns the later stages of life into a time of growth, confidence, and contribution — for individuals and for society. Through self-assessment, tailored training, mentoring, and learning-by-doing, participants explore their strengths and design personal pathways for career, learning, and social participation. At the same time, PATH works with employers to recognise experience, build intergenerational collaboration, and adapt workplaces to support longer, healthier working lives. The project also brings together research, best practices, and digital tools to make learning accessible and engaging. Its outcomes will include a methodological handbook and policy recommendations that help extend the approach to national and EU levels. By the end of the project, PATH will have created a transferable model for active ageing that strengthens well-being, supports workforce participation, and encourages social connection. In doing so, it aims to inspire employers, policymakers, and educators to make age-friendly change a lasting reality across Europe. PATH is implemented by a partnership of five organisations: Cogito Alapítvány (Hungary), Emphasys Centre (Cyprus), E-Seniors (France), Universidade da Madeira (Portugal), and Nord Universitet (Norway).

📢 A first look at what we're building

The PATH training programme is taking shape, built on our needs evaluation survey and shaped together with our expert partners.

🔹 Delivered as microlearning: short, focused units (3–10 minutes)
🔹 Structured around a learning cycle: small daily steps that build self-efficacy and support real, lasting behaviour change, not one-off information delivery.
🔹 Built for two distinct audiences, not a generic "one-size-fits-all" course

First modules in development cover:
🔹 Hidden age bias at work
🔹 Flexible work arrangements for 55+ colleagues
🔹 Transition planning
🔹 Digital learning
🔹 Workplace health & wellbeing

More on the platform itself soon.

💬We often talk about preparing young people for the future. But how often do we invest in the future of older adults?

Learning doesn't stop at retirement. On the contrary, it becomes even more important.🏆

As our communities continue to evolve, lifelong learning helps older adults stay independent, connected, and confident in navigating everyday life. 🔍🫂🧘
From remaining physically active, to learning new hobbies or developing digital skills, education opens the door to greater autonomy and well-being.

🌐 Research consistently shows that lifelong learning is linked to improved cognitive health, stronger social connections, increased self-confidence, and better mental and physical health. ❤️‍🩹It also helps reduce social isolation, giving older adults more opportunities to engage with their communities and maintain an active role in society.

💼 The most expensive business risk probably isn't staff turnover. It could be losing decades of experience overnight.

Every time an experienced employee retires without passing on their knowledge, organisations lose more than a team member. They lose technical expertise, trusted client relationships, problem-solving abilities and practical know-how that has been built over years. These elements cannot be replaced quickly.📚

This challenge is becoming increasingly urgent. Europe's population is ageing, retirement rates are rising, and many sectors are already facing labour and skills shortages.

💡 📈 This is where active ageing becomes a business strategy, not just a social goal.

Supporting employees aged 55+ to continue learning, share their expertise, mentor younger colleagues, and remain actively engaged in the workplace helps organisations strengthen knowledge transfer, improve workforce resilience, and prepare for smoother transitions. It also enables older employees to remain engaged, confident, and professionally fulfilled for longer, benefiting both the individual and the employer.🧠🌱

In this context, employers who invest in knowledge transfer, upskilling, and age-inclusive workplaces will be better prepared for the future than those who don't.⏳

🤝 The PATH - Planning Active Transitions for Healthy Aging project encourages employers to rethink ageing in the workplace and supports adults aged 55+ navigate the transition towards retirement with confidence, purpose, and new opportunities.

Ignoring older people isn’t a strategy. It’s a missed opportunity.
Gymwear brands are overlooking one of the most active and influential consumer groups: adults aged 50+.
According to the latest findings (see below) show that many people over 45 feel invisible in sportswear advertising, despite being more active than ever and holding over half of the UK’s consumer spending power.

A growing number of older adults say they’d feel more connected to — and buy more from — brands that actually represent them. Yet most gymwear ads still feature only younger models, reinforcing outdated ideas about who “belongs” in sport.

With 10.5 million adults aged 55+ staying active every week, ignoring this demographic isn’t just ageist — it’s a missed opportunity.
It’s time for advertising and production that reflects reality and celebrates active ageing.

Three days. Five partners. One shared mission. 💙
Huge thanks to Emphasys Centre for being such fantastic hosts, and to all our partners for the inspiration, energy, and teamwork. On to the next milestone! 🚀

🌍 From 24–26 June 2026, our partners came together in Nicosia, Cyprus, for the PATH - Planning Active Transitions for Healthy Aging project's Learning, Teaching, and Training Activity, hosted by Emphasys Centre. Over three productive days, partners collaborated to shape the training programme of the PATH project, sharing expertise, reviewing progress, and strengthening our common vision for empowering adults aged 55+ through their transition to retirement.

💻📚 During the LTTA, partners worked intensively on developing the project's innovative training programme, discussing digitalisation requirements, designing engaging learning pathways, defining training modules, and ensuring accessibility and quality at every stage.

🎉 The final day focused on the project's progress, where partners reviewed work package achievements, planned upcoming activities, agreed on next steps and celebrated milestones.

A big shoutout to our partners for the dedication, collaboration and commitment 🤝Cogito Alapítvány, Association E-Seniors, Nord universitet and PATH - Madeira 💡

The first day of our PATH Learning, Teaching and Training Activity is well underway in Nicosia!

We started the day with a warm welcome and an inspiring introduction to the host organisation, Emphasys Centre. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the centre’s work in digital innovation, software development and educational projects, including initiatives that support the digital inclusion and upskilling of older adults. While its work spans a wide range of educational and digital innovation fields, Emphasys has also been involved in initiatives supporting older adults in developing digital skills and confidence in the digital world.

The morning continued with a presentation by Kinga Vajda and Paolo Nascimento, who shared the results of the PATH needs assessment. The discussion highlighted the growing importance of digital literacy, healthy and active ageing, and the key topics that matter most to people aged 55+ as we develop the PATH - Planning Active Transitions for Healthy Aging training programme.

We also had the chance to visit the Emphasys podcast studio and explore how digital tools, media production and innovative learning environments can support education and community engagement.
