Nairobi didn't earn the name Silicon Savannah by accident.

It's home to one of Africa's deepest benches of founders, investors, and builders, anchored by a mobile money infrastructure that reshaped financial access for the whole continent and a hub network, from iHub to Nairobi Garage to Nailab, that's been turning ideas into ventures for over a decade.

Kenya has led Africa in startup funding two years running, and the energy on the ground matches the numbers: this is a city proving, again and again, that world-class ventures can be built from Africa for Africa, and for the world.

This week on Manje FAQs, we explore the question how does Manje work ✨ .

Imagine infrastructure that allows you to create a free user account in minutes and starting paying medical bills back home instantly.

From medication to surgery, lab tests to OPD, paid for in real-time.

Imagine this. A loved one is standing at a hospital counter on another continent. The care team says consultation will cost X amount. After that, the doctor will determine what’s next.
But you should know that we charge you upfront for any service from here on. If you are sent to the lab, you pay before tests are conducted, if you are going to see a specialist, you pay in advance.

Your relative does not have enough funds. They reach out. You make the transfer.

The transaction goes through, but the money app says funds will be received within an hour.

An hour? Your relative will need to sit and wait until funds are received into their mobile money account, and pay at the reception, before they can see the doctor.

You ask to speak with the reception to explain the situation, but a confirmation receipt on your phone is not payment, not until the hospital receives the funds.

In an emergency, this does not work. On any given day, healthcare cannot wait.

This is the reality for millions of people. A loved one in Europe or North America willing to support a friend or relative in Asia, Africa or LATAM, but the channels that move this money are built for commerce and not healthcare.

That is what Manje Health is addressing. Ensuring that funds meant for care move in real-time, with end-to-end confirmation and 100% guarantee.

We’re game-changing the ecosystem one dollar at a time, turning each remittance meant for care, into a clinical outcome…fast.

We’re open to meeting potential partners so reach out 👉 https://manjehealth.com/

As winner of the Canada-Africa Innovation Festival Builder Track Award in May this year, we automatically joined the African Impact Initiative (A.I.I). Working alongside ventures building for and from Africa, has been a window into how innovators are scaling businesses.

As part of our work with A.I.I, Manje Health has been featured on the Health Innovation Hub (H2i) at the University of Toronto.

Cheers to the innovators that keep inspiring and the ecosystems which ensure that dreamers have a seat at the table, regardless of who they are 💫

No single government. No single organisation. No single innovation. Can transform healthcare alone.

Around the world, healthcare breaks. From interoperability to affordability, people are making decisions each minute. Families are deciding where to access care. Doctors are triaging who gets care, when. Insurers are optimising what gets covered. Patients? They need care.

Sustainable solutions that address care at its varying stages, require a holistic approach.

Innovation that saves doctors time, helps bring efficiency to care teams, allows patients and families to access care at home or the point of care, all converge around one core issue - affordability.

Millions of people are pushed into poverty each year, due to out of pocket medical spending.

When doctors and innovators have done their work, the final decision rests on who will pay for the service.

It is for this reason that millions of people step up to send every dollar they can afford, to cover care for a loved one at home or abroad.

Our work at Manje Health is to ensure that every dollar sacrificed for the health and well-being of another person, becomes a clinical outcome with 100% guarantee.

This week on Manje FAQs, we explore the question what does Manje mean ✨ .

When you have a patient in Africa and a relative abroad, for example, in Europe or North America, willing to fund the patient's care, the infrastructure that moves that payment needs to work fast, Manje. Now. Nu.

Speed, trust and guarantee is what sets up apart.

We choose Manje because healthcare cannot wait.

For billions of people around the world, the face of healthcare is female.

In many families, when a loved one falls ill, it is the women that suspend their lives to care for the patient. That single act of love or necessity due to expectations, has an economic outcome to it.

The women that care for sick relatives, will suspend their studies, business or work, taking paid or unpaid leave to be at the hospital bedside, or nurse the patient at home.

In many instances, the men will continue their economic activities to provide, while the female caregivers fall behind economically.

While sickness and its outcomes are individual, having a patient in the family comes with economic, financial and well-being repercussions.

One of the factors that determine how fast women can get back to their livelihoods, hinges on early detection, treatment and aftercare support.

The hypothesis is this: If a disease is caught early, treatment commences immediately and aftercare support is available, early diagnosis can save lives. The result is that the sooner a patient recovers, the faster the female caregivers can get back to school, work or business.

A key component of early diagnosis is affordability. Some families just cannot afford healthcare. They sell property, livestock or forgo education and other needs, to cover care.

Usually at that stage, it may be too late.

At Manje Health, when we design intervention for our users, we look at healthcare both as an economic and gender issue.

That way, we can ensure that for the 300 million people sending $900 billion back home to various regions including Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Balkans or the Middle East, to support relatives, that every dollar sent for healthcare becomes a clinical outcome - a diagnostic lab test, a prescription filled, surgery or follow-up consultation.

Current money transfer channels were built for commerce and not for healthcare. We are changing that.

Two weeks ago, one of our beneficiaries under the Manje Health x SIC Life insurance received a new pair of prescription glasses/lenses covered under their plan at a hospital in Accra, Ghana. The patient's uncle, who lives in Stockholm, bought cover through our platform.

Today, we celebrate World Sight Day as an ecosystem contributor.

Why World Sight Day

Every October, on the second Thursday, World Sight Day casts a spotlight on the importance of eye care, and what it means to have care that is accessible, available and affordable to all.

Nearly everyone on the planet will experience an eye health issue in their lifetime, yet over a billion people still lack access to the services and treatments they need. The good news? This is a solvable problem.

Coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and the World Health Organisation (WHO, World Sight Day is an annual reminder to and an opportunity to join millions of people globally who understand the value of vision.

Manje Health joins the world today 8 October 2026 to celebrate this milestone as we continue turning remittances into clinical outcomes.

Together, we will make eye health impossible to ignore.
