This is the EYE of a diabetic patient. They were experiencing blurry vision. A dilated eye exam revealed the following:
Cataract type: Posterior sub-capsular on the visual axis caused by diabetes.

At the back of the eye:
Epiretinal membrane over the Optic Disc, Macular Exudates, Cotton Wool Spots, Retinal inflammation. Non-proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy.

The importance of an annual dilated eye exam as part of the routine eye checkup. DIABETES.

This is what the dilated eye exam revealed. 59 Female, no significant symptoms except slight blur that she thought was just a matter of routinely changing her glasses after 2 or 3 years.

This is what Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) looks like to the clinician. NV on Disc and NV Elsewhere, coupled with large amount of dot and blot microhaemorrhages, which can also be seen on the Macula area of central vision. This is the slight blurriness that the patient was experiencing. I am also noting Optic Drusen on the temporal disc.

This patient is referred to an Ophthalmologist for Anti-VEGF injection treatments, as well as referred a GP clinic to closely manage the DM2.
