As a pediatrician and a mom, I know how hard it can be to tell the difference. Here’s what I always tell my patients’ parents:
Watch out for:
✅ Pain that’s getting worse, not better
✅ Fever alongside the stomach pain
✅ Pain that wakes them up from sleep
✅ Vomiting that won’t stop
✅ Pain in the lower right side of the belly
✅ Blood in their stool
A regular tummy ache usually comes and goes, doesn’t interrupt sleep, and improves with rest or a trip to the bathroom. 💛

When in doubt? Call your pediatrician. That’s what we’re here for.

A mom brought her toddler in for a fever that had been going on for 5 days.😳

His eyes were red. His lips were cracked and bright red. His hands were swollen. He had a rash across his body.
It was Kawasaki disease and we caught it just in time.💪🏾

Here’s what every parent needs to know ⬇️
🔴 Fever lasting MORE than 5 days — this is the #1 sign
🔴 Red, bloodshot eyes (without discharge)
🔴 Cracked, red lips or a “strawberry tongue”
🔴 Swollen hands and feet
🔴 Rash on the body
🔴 Swollen lymph node on one side of the neck

Kawasaki disease is rare, but it can cause serious heart complications if it’s not caught early. If your child has a fever for 5+ days PLEASE see your pediatrician. Don’t wait it out.

It’s giving… self love. 🪞✨

Friday reminder that the relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship in your life.❤️

I used to pour into everyone else first, my patients, my kids, my family and leave myself with whatever was left over. But I had to learn that I can’t pour from an empty cup.

When I love myself well, I show up better. As a doctor. As a mom. As a woman.

So this weekend? Do something for YOU. Rest without guilt. Move your body. Say something kind to yourself in the mirror and actually mean it. 💛
