In honor of the first week of summer, we want to give a big shout-out to the "Kind Club" from Wylie West Junior High School - Abilene, TX. They visited us last week during the final days of school to drop off a surprise gift!

These amazing kiddos donated care packages for patients in Hendrick Children's Hospital. Several of the students shared their stories of receiving care at the hospital following surgery or a broken arm, and they wanted to take this chance to give back and pay it forward.

Celebrating our friend and colleague, Sabra, is an easy thing to do!

Last week, we honored Sabra as she takes on the next chapter of her journey: retirement.

Sabra has poured her heart into her role over Volunteer Services, investing tremendous amounts of love and support into a group of people who selflessly give their time to the hospital and curating our beautiful gift shops that help bring joy to people while they are here.

We are all better for knowing Sabra, and she will be dearly missed by her Hendrick Family.

The Spirit Team at Highland Junior High and High School might be young but they are mighty. They fundraise each year to support women battling breast cancer in their community.

Thankfully, this year they do not have any local families on that journey, so they spread their reach to a West Texas neighbor, The Hope Fund by Hendrick Health. We are grateful they chose us as their partner to help women all over the Big Country receive treatment and care.

Last Thursday, under a clear, blue sky, we spent time memorializing those who have passed and honoring their families during our Brick, Paver and Leaf Dedication at the Hendrick Hospice Care Center. It was a time of remembrance and encouragement for the families. The beauty of the day provided a sacred, thin space where it felt as if those we were remembering where right there with us.

When a family member passes away, children often experience deep grief they might not have the tools to cope with. Hendrick Hospice seeks to walk alongside children in their grieving, giving them support, love and skills to help them navigate loss.

Camp Courage is a beautiful collaboration between Hendrick Hospice and Hendrick Children's Hospital to allow kids to be kids while also giving them space to process and cope in a loving, safe and joyful environment.

Registration is open now for this year's camp June 1 – 5. The registration fee is $10 per child, with all additional costs generously funded by Children’s Miracle Network and other community partners. Deadline to register is May 25. To register, visit hendrickhospice.org and click on Camp Courage.

Last week, our Hendrick Health Foundation team said "goodbye" to Pascal, who moved to Dallas for the next step of his training with Canine Companions. The national nonprofit organization provides expertly trained service dogs to people with disabilities and facility dogs to professionals – at no cost to recipients.

The initial training of Pascal (along with several of our other pup friends) has been a partnership between Hendrick Health and Hardin-Simmons University.

The Hendrick Medical Center Foundation, along with Community Foundation of Abilene and First Financial Trust, had the privilege of hosting Dr. Russell James from Texas Tech University last week to guide both financial professionals, individuals and families in navigating opportunities to maximize charitable giving while minimizing tax implications.

We all want our giving dollars to go further, so we are thankful for Dr. James traveling from Lubbock to share his expertise.

Tonight we are hosting "Smarter Ways to Give," presented by Dr. Russell James. The reception brought donors and friends together to discuss philanthropic and estate planning strategies to bless your family.

Dr. James is a Texas Tech University faculty member, has spoken at multiple conferences, and is a nationally respected voice on the intersection of financial planning, philanthropy, and faith. He is an expert researcher, professor, and presenter.

This event was presented in partnership with First Financial Wealth Management and Hendrick Medical Center Foundation.
