For more than four decades, Miller's has been a proud member of the Ohio Association of Medical Equipment Services (OAMES), supporting the organization since its founding in the 1980s.

OAMES plays a vital role in protecting and advancing the home medical equipment industry throughout Ohio. Through advocacy, education, regulatory guidance, and collaboration with Ohio Medicaid, the association helps providers navigate challenges, stay informed, and continue delivering high-quality care and equipment to the clients we serve every day.

We would also like to recognize Executive Director Heidi Moss for her leadership and dedication to Ohio's home medical equipment community. Your power wheelchair or scooter depends on its batteries every single day, and keeping them in good condition is one of the easiest ways to help avoid unexpected breakdowns and keep you moving.

Over time, mobility equipment batteries (like all batteries) naturally lose their ability to hold a full charge. You may want to have your batteries checked if you notice any of these common signs:
• Your equipment doesn't travel as far as it used to.
• The battery gauge drops quickly, especially on ramps or uneven surfaces.
• Your power wheelchair or scooter slows down or seems to lose power during longer outings.
• You're charging your equipment more often than you used to.
• It struggles with hills or thresholds that it previously handled with ease.
• Battery warning lights or fault codes appear on your controller.

Did you know? Medicare, Ohio Medicaid, and other payers typically pay for replacement batteries for power wheelchairs and scooters when they have reached the end of their useful life and the medical necessity requirements are met. If you're unsure whether you're eligible, our team can determine that for you.
A few simple habits can also help extend the life of your batteries:
• Charge your equipment every night, even if it wasn't used heavily.
• Avoid letting the batteries become completely discharged.
• If your equipment will not be used for several days, keep it plugged in according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
• Store your power wheelchair or scooter in a dry, temperature-controlled environment whenever possible.

Speaker Spotlight: Cindi Petito to Present on Home Accessibility at the 33rd Annual Virginia Miller Memorial Educational Seminar

We're excited to announce Cindi Petito, OTR/L, ATP, CAPS, CEAC, Director of VGM Live at Home, as one of the featured speakers for the 33rd Annual Virginia Miller Memorial Educational Seminar on October 22, 2026, in Akron, Ohio.

As more individuals choose to age in place and clients with mobility challenges seek greater independence at home, home accessibility has become an increasingly important part of the rehabilitation process. That's why we're pleased to offer one of our first dedicated educational sessions focused entirely on home accessibility and home modification best practices.

Drawing on more than 30 years of clinical experience, Cindi will share practical insights on home accessibility assessments, Universal Design principles, accessible entrances and exits, emergency egress planning, and solutions such as ramps, vertical platform lifts, and stairlifts.

This session will provide therapists, ATPs, and healthcare professionals with valuable tools to help clients navigate their environments more safely and independently.
