We take standing X-Rays in our office in Whiplash Injury cases & here is why!!!
(THINK POLICY LIMITS CASE SETTLEMENT & BEST CARE FOR CLIENT)
[You can NOT get these X-Rays when just laying down like in the ER- those X-rays are just looking for bone breaks].
Lumbar (Low Back) vertebral translation in the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment measures the abnormal anterior or posterior (Front to back) sliding (displacement) of one lumbar vertebra upon another during movement.
Key Criteria and Thresholds
Definition: It evaluates Alteration of Motion Segment Integrity (AOMSI)—also referred to as loss of motion segment integrity (LOMSI)—on standing lateral X-rays taken in maximal flexion and extension (bending forward & backward).
Threshold for Lumbar Spine:
5th Edition / 4th Edition AMA Guides: Greater than 4.5 mm to 5 mm (depending on the specific edition referenced) of anterior-posterior translation of one vertebra relative to the adjacent vertebra.
Alternative Measure (Angular Motion): Must exceed 15° at L1–L4, 20° at L4–L5, or 25° at L5–S1 if angular criteria are used instead of or alongside translation.
Impairment Category Impact:
Finding structural translation that meets AOMSI criteria typically qualifies the patient for a higher-tier IMPAIRMENT rating, such as DRE Category IV (e.g., 20% to 23% whole person impairment in the 5th Edition), or Category V if combined with radiculopathy.
[So did you or your client really get checked out fully if you had X-Rays but not these X-Rays?]
WE LIST THE COLOSSUS HIGH DRIVING FACTORS:
(Colossus is a proprietary claims-adjusting software program, used by major auto insurance companies to calculate settlement offers for bodily injury claims.
It is employed by massive insurers—including Allstate, Farmers, MetLife, and USAA—to evaluate roughly 60% of all auto injury claims in the United States. Rather than relying purely on human discretion, the software utilizes over 10,000 rules and 600 injury codes to convert medical records into numeric "severity points" that dictate a strict settlement range)
