When you finally see through the trauma fog, you face the uncomfortable reality that some of your exhausting ways of living, are based in trauma.
That was when the exhaustion hit me, when I stopped. I needed that rest and time to work out who the heck I was without all of that!
Finally I’m edging my way through understanding myself better and being authentically me (with safe people) 💜💜💜

Today is the anniversary of my later husband's death. Eighteen years ago we lost him to su***de.

He was a military veteran battling complex PTSD.

He was also:

A father.
A son.
A brother.
An uncle.
A nephew.
A friend.

He was so much more than his disease but by the time he sought help, it was too late.

Eighteen years ago, it was not very common for men to seek treatment for mental illness nor was it common for them to openly talk about needing help.

A lot has changed in eighteen years but unfortunately the stigma around mental health and su***de prevention hasn't changed enough.

If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out. Just like you'd seek treatment for cancer, there is no shame in seeking treatment for mental health.

You are not alone.
