Sunday Funday! 🤸💙

Sometimes the best way to get ready for Monday… is to spend a little time upside down. 😄

Movement and play can help kids:
✨ Get those wiggles out
✨ Regulate their bodies
✨ Reset after a busy week
✨ Feel more prepared for the week ahead

Whether it’s swinging, climbing, jumping, or simply being silly together, a little movement goes a long way.

How is your family wrapping up the weekend?

When the social media girl says, “I just need you for ONE quick video…” 😂🎥

But really — our therapists are always willing to jump in, be silly, and have some fun because we genuinely love what we do and we LOVE our kiddos. 💛

Play is kind of our thing around here. 😉

Sometimes after a long day, you just need to crash into something soft. 💜

And from a PT perspective? There’s more happening here than just FUN!

Jumping, crashing, climbing, and landing in a foam pit can help kiddos work on:
✨ Gross motor strength
✨ Balance & coordination
✨ Motor planning
✨ Body awareness
✨ Confidence with movement

Plus, that big-body movement can be such a satisfying way to get those wiggles out after a long day of sitting, learning, and following directions. 🙌

At FPT, we love finding ways to build strong, confident bodies through PLAY — because therapy doesn’t always have to feel like work. 💪🛝

What’s your kiddo’s favorite way to get their big-body movement in after a long day?

🍎 Back-to-school season is exciting—but the first few weeks can also be overwhelming!

New routines, busy classrooms, unfamiliar faces and extra noise can take a lot out of little bodies. You may notice more meltdowns, irritability, clinginess, trouble sleeping or a bigger need for movement after school. These can all be signs that your child’s system is working hard to adjust.

Whether your kiddo has already started school or is about to, here are a few simple ways to make the day a little smoother:

👕 Pick out clothes the night before to reduce morning decisions.
🥨 Have a crunchy snack ready after school.
🧸 Offer a favorite calming activity with no pressure to talk right away.
🛋️ Let them squeeze or “smash” safely between couch cushions for some calming deep pressure.
💛 Give them extra patience while their body adjusts to the new routine.

What helps your kiddo decompress after a long school day? Share your favorites below—we’d love to add some new ideas to our toolbox!

POP. PLAY. PROGRESS. 💥

These colorful little suction toys are doing more than keeping kids entertained!

They’re strengthening hands, building core stability, improving coordination, and encouraging problem-solving—all through play.

That’s the beauty of pediatric OT & PT. 💙💚

It might look like play… but it’s so much more. 🏖️✨

Playing in sand builds so many foundational skills for growing bodies and minds!

🤎 Occupational Therapy
• Tactile sensory exploration
• Hand strength & fine motor development
• Bilateral coordination
• Body awareness and self-regulation

💙 Physical Therapy
• Foot and ankle strengthening
• Balance and stability
• Core activation
• Weight shifting and motor planning

Sometimes the best therapy happens one handful of sand at a time. 💛

“She’s just playing.” 👀

Except she’s actually building the skills she needs for everyday life.

✨ This obstacle course is targeting:
🛴 Core strength & upper body stability
👀 Visual tracking and motor planning
⚖️ Balance & coordination
🧠 Bilateral coordination
✋ Fine motor skills
🎯 Attention and sequencing
💪 Body awareness and self-regulation
❤️ Confidence through positive affirmations

And that beach ball? It’s doing more than you think! Holding it throughout the course adds an extra layer of challenge by encouraging postural control, body awareness, motor planning, and sustained attention—all while making the activity even more fun.

Every obstacle has a purpose. Every movement is intentional. And every success helps build the confidence children need to thrive both in and out of therapy.

💚 At Functional Playground Therapies, we believe meaningful progress happens through play… because every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and belong.

👇 Which station do you think your kiddo would want to try first?

It might look like simple play, but this sensory activity is packed with developmental benefits!

Walking barefoot across different textures—like dried beans, corn, lentils, and rice—provides rich sensory input that helps children:
🌾 Build body awareness
⚖️ Improve balance and coordination
💪 Strengthen the muscles in their feet and ankles
🧠 Develop motor planning skills
✨ Support healthy sensory processing
❤️ Increase confidence when exploring new sensations

Every step sends important information from the feet to the brain, helping children better understand where their bodies are in space and how to adapt to different environments.

At Functional Playground Therapies, we believe some of the best learning happens through play. Activities like this may look simple, but they’re intentionally designed to help children grow stronger, more confident, and more independent—one step at a time! 💚

Would your child kick off their shoes and give this a try? 👣
