Why would a doctor voluntarily jump into a tub of ice water? 🧊

It sounds like a bit of a challenge (and it is!), but for many of our patients struggling with chronic inflammation, fatigue, or hormone imbalances, cold therapy can be a total game-changer.

I use cold plunges myself because the medical benefits are hard to ignore. We’re talking about a massive reduction in systemic inflammation, a natural rush of mood-boosting endorphins, and even a little kickstart for your metabolism. At AmarilloMD, we aren't interested in just giving you a pill for a symptom; we want to get to the root of the problem and help you reset your health from the inside out.

Whether you’re a busy mom managing thyroid issues or an employer looking to keep your team healthy and energized, recovery is a piece of the puzzle we can't ignore. This is part 3 of our AmarilloMD Reset, and we are so excited to see our community taking these steps toward better health!

Have you ever tried a cold plunge, or does the thought of it make you want to grab a heated blanket? Tell me your thoughts in the comments! 👇

Hey Amarillo parents! Keeping your kids' Vitamin A levels up is a powerhouse move for their immune systems. With measles in the news lately, I want our community to feel empowered, not overwhelmed. Vitamin A is a key tool for prevention and recovery, and you can find it right in your kitchen!

Kids need about 300-600 mcg RAE daily. Here is how to get it through foods they will actually eat:

1. 🍠 Sweet Potato "Fries": Bake at 400°F for 25 min. One potato is a massive boost!
2. 🥕 Veggie Mac: Blend carrots and butternut squash into cheese sauce.
3. 🥭 Mango Smoothie: Blend mango, yogurt, and a handful of spinach.
4. 🎃 Pumpkin Muffins: Canned pumpkin adds ~200mcg per muffin.
5. 🧀 Sunshine Quesadillas: Mix shredded carrots into the cheddar cheese.
6. 🍈 Cantaloupe Popsicles: Blend fruit and yogurt, then freeze in molds.
7. 🥚 Hidden Spinach Eggs: Scramble finely chopped spinach into eggs.

Pro tip: Vitamin A is fat-soluble. Serve these with olive oil, cheese, or yogurt to maximize absorption!

What’s your kid’s favorite healthy snack? Let’s swap recipes in the comments!

Hey Amarillo citizens, with the recent news about measles, I want to make sure our community has the facts about nutrition and protection. Evidence shows that Vitamin A is a powerhouse for the immune system when facing this challenge.

If you or your family are exposed and not pregnant, here is the protocol recommended by the World Health Organization:

- Children 12 months and older: 200,000 IU orally once daily for 2 consecutive days.
- Infants 6-11 months: 100,000 IU once daily for 2 days.
- Infants under 6 months: 50,000 IU once daily for 2 days.

A third dose may be given 2-4 weeks later if signs of deficiency are present.

CRITICAL SAFETY WARNING: Please listen closely, DO NOT take high-dose vitamin A (retinol) if you are pregnant or trying to conceive. High doses can cause birth defects. For our expectant moms, stick to Beta-carotene (the plant-based form in sweet potatoes and carrots) which is perfectly safe.

For our patients, we’re happy to discuss this with you personally. Please don't self-prescribe megadoses without talking to us first. We want you safe and healthy!

Let’s cut through the noise and look at the data. Data doesn’t panic; it informs.

The science on Vitamin A and measles is remarkably strong. A 2022 Cochrane Review (47 trials, 1.2 million children) showed Vitamin A supplementation reduced measles incidence by 50%. That’s prevention in action.

For those exposed, management data is even more compelling. A 2005 Cochrane Review found that two doses of 200,000 IU of Vitamin A on consecutive days reduced mortality in children under 2 by 79%. For non-pregnant adults and children exposed, taking two consecutive days of high-dose Vitamin A is an evidence-based step to support the body.

How it works: Measles targets the epithelial barriers (skin, lungs, and gut) and rapidly depletes Vitamin A stores. Replenishing them helps your immune system fight back and repair vital tissue. WHO and UNICEF have recommended this for management since 1997.

We believe in root-cause medicine. If you have questions about supporting your family’s nutrition, drop them below. We’re here for our Amarillo community.

Hey Amarillo families, let’s talk about that "9 out of 10" number you’ve been seeing lately. When it comes to your health, transparency matters most: so let’s look at where that statistic actually comes from.

The CDC’s Pink Book and Yellow Book both note that the secondary attack rate for measles exceeds 90% among susceptible contacts. This means that in a household or close-contact setting, an unvaccinated person has a very high chance of contracting it if they are exposed to the virus.

Why is the number so high? Measles is uniquely airborne and can hang in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the room. It is one of the most contagious viruses we know of. However, it’s also important to know that for those who are vaccinated, the risk remains extremely low. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are 97% effective.

Understanding these numbers helps you make informed decisions for your family without the intimidation. That’s our goal here: to inform, not to scare.

What questions do you have about the data being shared right now? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

We’ve been talking a lot about nutrition lately, but did you know your immune system also responds to temperature stress?

At AmarilloMD, we want to give you every tool to stay healthy. That’s why our members get daily access to our Fire & Ice experience: our infrared sauna and cold plunge.

🔥 The Fire: Regular sauna use induces a mild "artificial fever," mimicking your body's natural response to infection and increasing white blood cell counts. It also improves circulation, helping immune cells travel efficiently.

❄️ The Ice: Cold plunging releases norepinephrine and boosts "natural killer" cell activity. It also moves lymphatic fluid, which is vital for clearing out toxins.

While this isn't a replacement for Vitamin A, it’s a great way to "train" your immune system to be more proactive. Every little bit counts when protecting your family!

Have you tried the Fire & Ice experience at the clinic yet? We’d love to hear how it makes you feel in the comments!

Hey Amarillo citizens, you might have seen the news about a confirmed measles case in our city on July 17. While news like this can feel a bit overwhelming, I want to step in with some calm, reassuring perspective from a doctor’s point of view.

Let’s look at the numbers together:
- Texas has had 182 cases total this year: that’s actually down 77% from over 800 cases in 2025.
- Nationally, we’re seeing 2,170 cases across 41 states, which is consistent with last year: not a surge.
- The vast majority of cases are in unvaccinated or undervaccinated populations.
- If you’re vaccinated (2 doses of MMR), you are 97% protected.

We are not seeing widespread community transmission in Amarillo. This is what we’re trained for, and we’ve got this! If you are unsure of your status, we can check it for you right here.

This is a week of education, so stay tuned for more on symptoms and nutritional support. We're in this together.

Hey Amarillo families! With measles in the news lately, I want to share some quick facts from my 20+ years of experience to help you stay informed, not scared.

Measles is a virus that spreads through the air when someone coughs or sneezes. It’s a bit of a "lingering" guest: it can stay in a room for up to 2 hours after an infected person leaves.

What should you look for? It typically starts with a fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. Then the rash appears, starting on the face and neck before spreading downward. A telltale sign I always check for are Koplik spots: tiny white spots inside the mouth that show up before the rash.

Keep in mind, a person is contagious from 4 days before the rash appears until 4 days after. While most people recover fully, we stay alert for complications like ear infections or pneumonia.

The good news is that we’ve been managing this virus for decades. It is well-understood, and we are here to support our community every step of the way. Knowledge is power!

Why would a doctor voluntarily jump into a tub of ice water? 🧊

It sounds like a bit of a challenge (and it is!), but for many of our patients struggling with chronic inflammation, fatigue, or hormone imbalances, our "Fire and Ice" treatment can be a total game-changer.

I use cold plunges myself because the medical benefits are hard to ignore. By combining the deep heat of the sauna with the shock of the cold, we see a massive reduction in systemic inflammation, a natural rush of mood-boosting endorphins, and even a little kickstart for your metabolism. At AmarilloMD, we aren't interested in just giving you a pill for a symptom; we want to get to the root of the problem and help you reset your health from the inside out.

Ever feel like your doctor’s office has a drive-thru window? 🚗💨 "Next! Here’s your 5 minutes, see you in six months."

We’ve all been there: the frustration of the traditional insurance system where you’re just a number. Lately, I’ve seen so many people caught up in medical "trends" and buzzwords because their practitioners are rushing through appointments without really listening. I recently heard about a woman in her 30s misdiagnosed with perimenopause when it was actually just PMS. That’s what happens when there isn't time to look at the whole picture.

At AmarilloMD, we do things differently. For $75 a month, you get a concierge-like experience. No 5-minute rush jobs. You get unlimited visits and access to wholesale prices on labs and imaging. Because I’ve been a doctor for over 20 years, I oversee everything we do here to ensure that quality stays high.

We focus on the patient-doctor relationship. That’s why we have a waitlist: we refuse to turn our practice into a "fast food" clinic. You deserve a doctor who knows you.

Drop a ❤️ if you’re ready for healthcare that actually cares!
