Evidence-based care during high-risk transitions is critical.💙

Because of research, we know that people living with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders face elevated su***de rates, particularly in the weeks and months after psychiatric hospitalization.

Despite this vulnerability, these individuals are often excluded from su***de prevention research, leaving major gaps in evidence-based care during high-risk transitions.

With AFSP's support, Dr. Brandon Gaudiano piloted an adapted version of the Coping Long Term with Active Su***de Program for people with schizophrenia-spectrum disorders.

If you are grieving the loss of a loved one to su***de, you are not alone. 💙 Here are eight things we know for sure about grief after su***de loss:

1. There are ways to practice self-care while grieving a su***de loss (and it’s important!)
2. Grieving a su***de loss takes time. You don’t have to be “over” it.
3. Others will grieve differently than you, even when experiencing the same loss.
4. You don’t have to have all of the answers to begin healing.
5. Grieving can be exhausting. Take time to rest and recharge.
6. Your grief is not a burden. It is an expected reaction to loss.
7. It’s okay to say their name, even if others can’t right now.
8. There are resources out there to support you in your grief.
