Our community has been incredible in supporting tornado recovery 💛💙 (Keep those sign-ups coming!) Most volunteers are here to help, and we are deeply grateful for them.

Unfortunately, we've received a report of individuals falsely claiming to be volunteers causing concerns on private property. This is not entirely uncommon following a disaster.

Before allowing any volunteers onto your property:
• Ask what group they’re volunteering with.
• Most volunteer groups are affiliated with a nonprofit, service club, or church. Some local corporations are also sending out volunteer groups.
• If the group name is not familiar do a quick internet search for it.
• Never provide payment to any volunteer group, and be cautious with your sensitive personal information.

When in doubt, ask them to kindly leave your property - your safety comes first. Report suspicious activity to your local non-emergency police number.

Examples of legitimate volunteer groups that have been helping residents with their homes include but are not limited to:

• Samaritan’s Purse/Alliance Church
• UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief)

• Knights of Columbus
