National Donut Day 🍩

Therapist: "Have you been practicing self-care?"
Me: Holding a donut 🍩

"Absolutely. This is a circle of emotional support."
Happy National Donut Day! 🍩

While donuts can't solve all of life's problems, taking small moments to enjoy something you love can make a difference. Whether it's a favorite treat, a walk outside, or a few quiet minutes to yourself, self-care doesn't have to be complicated.

Today, give yourself permission to enjoy the little things—sprinkles are optional. 😉

Supporting Children's Emotional Development 💛

Children aren't born knowing how to understand, express, or manage their emotions—they learn through relationships, experiences, and guidance from the adults around them.

One of the most powerful things we can do is help children recognize that all feelings are okay, even when certain behaviors are not.

Instead of:
❌ "Stop crying."
❌ "You're fine."
❌ "Don't be angry."

Try:
✅ "I can see you're upset."
✅ "That was really disappointing."
✅ "I'm here with you while you work through this."

When children feel seen, heard, and understood, they develop the emotional skills needed to navigate challenges, build healthy relationships, and grow in confidence.

Remember: Emotional development isn't about raising children who never struggle—it's about helping them learn they can handle difficult feelings and still be okay. 💛

PTSD Awareness Month 💚

Trauma can affect people in ways that aren't always visible. While some wounds heal on the outside, emotional wounds can linger long after a difficult experience has passed.

PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It may show up as anxiety, intrusive memories, difficulty sleeping, feeling on edge, emotional numbness, or avoiding reminders of the trauma.

If you or someone you love is struggling, know this: healing is possible, and support is available.

This PTSD Awareness Month, let's work to:
💚 Increase understanding of trauma and its effects
💚 Reduce stigma around seeking help
💚 Support survivors with compassion and empathy
💚 Remind others that recovery is a journey, not a race

You do not have to face the impact of trauma alone. Reaching out for support can be an important step toward healing.

Men's Health Month 💙

Taking care of your health isn't just about going to the gym or eating well—it's also about caring for your mental and emotional well-being.

Many men are taught to "tough it out" or keep their struggles to themselves. But strength isn't about carrying everything alone. Strength is recognizing when you need support and giving yourself permission to ask for it.

This Men's Health Month, consider checking in with yourself:
✔️ How are you managing stress?
✔️ Are you making time for rest and self-care?
✔️ Do you have someone you can talk to when life feels overwhelming?

Your mental health matters just as much as your physical health. Seeking support is a sign of courage, not weakness.

💙 This month, let's help break the stigma and encourage honest conversations about men's mental health.

😄 National Smile Day 😄

Today we’re celebrating something surprisingly powerful: the smile.

You know the one—you accidentally do it when someone waves at you and you have no idea who they are… but now you’re committed for life.

Smiles are interesting because they can mean:
“I’m happy” 😊
“I’m uncomfortable but polite” 😅
“I just made eye contact with my therapist in public” 😳

In therapy, we also know smiles don’t always tell the full story. Sometimes people smile while carrying stress, grief, anxiety, or just a very long to-do list that keeps regenerating like a video game boss.

So today’s reminder is simple:
A smile can be real, practiced, protective, or just muscle memory in a Target aisle—and all of it is human.

If your smile shows up today, great.

If it doesn’t, also great. We support both.

🧡 World MS Day – May 30 🧡

Today we recognize World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day, a time to raise awareness, support those living with MS, and honor the strength it takes to navigate a chronic and often invisible illness.

MS can impact not only the body, but also emotional wellbeing—bringing challenges like uncertainty, fatigue, anxiety, grief, and changes in identity. You are not alone in that experience.

At our practice, we hold space for:
💛 coping with chronic illness
💛 processing grief and life transitions
💛 managing anxiety, stress, and fatigue
💛 supporting caregivers and families
💛 building emotional resilience in the face of uncertainty

Whether you are living with MS, loving someone who is, or supporting others in your community—we see you.

Healing isn’t always about “fixing.” Sometimes it’s about adapting, honoring your experience, and finding support along the way. 🌿

🐊 National Alligator Day 🐊

Today we’re honoring one of nature’s most misunderstood creatures… the alligator.

Kind of like your emotions when you’ve been “fine” all week and suddenly someone asks, “So how are you really doing?” 😅

Alligators remind us:
-they stay calm… until they don’t
-they have a strong bite (like unprocessed feelings)
-they survive by adapting to their environment

In therapy, we work on noticing what’s under the surface before things snap—because unlike alligators, your coping skills don’t have to rely on surprise attacks. 🐊💬

So today, check in with yourself:
Am I floating peacefully… or just doing a very convincing alligator impression?

Either way, we’re here for it.

Memorial Day Reminder 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to our country. ❤️

While many spend the day gathering with loved ones, we also recognize that holidays like this can bring up grief, loss, trauma, or complicated emotions for military families, veterans, and those remembering someone they love.

Take time today to:
-rest without guilt
-connect with supportive people
-honor your emotions
-practice self-compassion
-remember that healing and remembrance can coexist

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day

Today is World Schizophrenia Day 💚

Schizophrenia is a complex mental health condition that affects how a person may think, feel, perceive reality, and interact with the world around them. It is often misunderstood and heavily stigmatized — but people living with schizophrenia deserve compassion, support, and access to quality care.

Schizophrenia is not:
• a “split personality”
• caused by weakness or poor character
• something someone can simply “snap out of”

With proper treatment, support systems, therapy, and community understanding, many individuals with schizophrenia can lead meaningful and fulfilling lives.

This World Schizophrenia Day, let’s choose education over stigma and compassion over judgment.

Mental health matters at every stage of life. 💙

Older adults may face unique challenges that can impact emotional well-being, including:
• grief and loss
• chronic illness or pain
• loneliness or isolation
• life transitions and retirement
• caregiving stress
• changes in independence

These experiences are common — but struggling in silence shouldn’t be.

Mental health support can help older adults improve coping skills, strengthen social connection, process life changes, and feel supported through every season of life.

Checking in with older loved ones, listening without judgment, and encouraging support can make a meaningful difference.
