What a wonderful week in Charlotte, NC!

Adam Roper and Lesley Edwards Roper were excited to attend the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) National Convention this week! It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with longtime friends, make new friendships, strengthen valued relationships, and share ideas with others who have the same passion for serving families that we do.

One of the things we love most about funeral service is that there is always something new to learn and ways we can continue to grow and improve. We enjoyed exploring new ideas, innovations, and services that will help us continue providing the very best care to the families who place their trust in us.

As a family-owned funeral home, we believe that serving families well means never becoming complacent. We are excited to bring home fresh ideas, new knowledge, and additional service options that will allow us to better serve our community.

For us, funeral service is much more than a business. It is a calling, a privilege, and a responsibility we take to heart. We never want to stop learning, growing, or finding meaningful ways to make a difficult time a little easier for the families we serve.

We are truly grateful for the friendships and fellowship we enjoyed this week, for the opportunity to learn from others in our profession, and most importantly, for the blessings God has given us and the privilege of serving the families of Asheville and Western North Carolina.

Visiting a cemetery might seem like an uncommon thing to do. But cemeteries, with their unique memorials and stories etched in stone, can be pretty amazing places. And oftentimes, returning to a loved one’s final resting place brings a sense of connection, remembrance, and peace.

Lois Elizabeth Baldwin Angel, of Asheville, passed away on October 23, 2026, in Asheville. She was born on December 28, 1934, in the Sandy Mush Community of Buncombe County.

Lois lived a life marked by devotion to her work, her family, and her unwavering faith in God. She began her career as a clerk at Malvern Hills Drug Store and went on to work at S&H Kress, Mills Manufacturing in Weaverville, Gold Blooms, Mars, and later returned to Mills Manufacturing for a second time. She also worked at Asheville Electrical Supply, St. Joseph Hospital, and Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute. She concluded her career as an administrative secretary at the Buncombe County Juvenile Detention Center, where she faithfully served until her retirement.

Above all, Lois treasured her family and the faith that guided her throughout her life. She often spoke with pride of having raised “two of the sweetest boys on earth,” lovingly saying she had done so “on a wing and lots of prayers.” Her own life was deeply rooted in the Christian values instilled in her by her parents. She said she was "raised on her mom and dad’s prayers, Bible reading, faith, and church, always church.” Those precious foundations remained close to her heart throughout her life and became a lasting legacy of love and faith that she passed on to her family. Lois was a faithful member of Sunrise Baptist Church for many years.

A beloved wife and mother, Lois shared her life with her husband, Weldon Angel, whom she married on February 14, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert Lyda "GL" Baldwin and Florence Sarah Duckett Baldwin; and by her siblings: Paul Baldwin, Burnett Baldwin, Mary Boyd, and Belton Baldwin.

She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her sons, Mike Angel and Greg K. Angel and wife Melissa; her grandchildren, Kate Angel Cox and Matthew Reagan Angel; her great-grandchildren, Jordan Cox and Lilly Morrow; her sister-in-law, Retha Angel; and many nieces and nephews. Their lives stand as part of the lasting legacy she leaves behind, and her memory will remain close to their hearts.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Road, Asheville, North Carolina 28804, with Pastor Allen Rash officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois's memory to Trinity Baptist Church, Trinity Building Fund, 216 Shelburne Rd, Asheville, NC 28806.

Lois will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew her.

Tom Warnock passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born on December 28, 1959, in Yonkers, New York. He graduated from the State University of New York at Albany, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. He began his career as a fixed-income securities professional on Wall Street, building a reputation for hard work and dedication. His years at Bank One were especially meaningful to him, in large part because of the many lifelong friendships he formed along the way. After retiring from Wall Street, Tom embarked on a second career in teaching—a role he found deeply rewarding and one that reflected his desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Growing up, Tom spent his summers in the Hamptons, where he developed a lifelong love of the beach and time by the water.

In 1989, Tom met the love of his life, Karin. They married in 1990, beginning a loving partnership that would span 36 years. In 1992, they settled in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, where they raised their three sons and built a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Tom had a passion for travel and adventure, and family vacations were among his greatest joys. He approached every trip with enthusiasm and careful planning, often dreaming up the next adventure almost as soon as the family returned home. He loved exploring the beautiful national parks of the American West, biking through the Colorado mountains, and rafting down the Snake River. An accomplished skier, Tom cherished skiing out West with his family and catching the “first chair.” A highlight of his many skiing adventures was heli-skiing in British Columbia alongside his sons. He also enjoyed scuba diving and found great joy in exploring the underwater world of St. John. Tom was an enthusiastic golfer and a proud member of Arcola Country Club.

Above all, he loved sharing these passions and experiences with Karin and their sons, Jeff, Ryan, and Kyle. Those experiences became cherished memories and strengthened the special bond they shared throughout their lives.

Tom took great pride in the life he and Karin created together. Their home was always open to family and friends, and he loved nothing more than bringing people together, preparing a good meal, and celebrating the holidays surrounded by family. He also appreciated life’s simple pleasures: a good steak, a glass of Chardonnay, and classic rock.

Tom was a thoughtful, kind, gentle, and generous man who was deeply loved by his family, friends, and community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and had a special way of making others feel welcome. More than anything, he was a devoted husband, a proud and supportive father, and a loyal friend. His steady presence, warm heart, and genuine love for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Tom will be deeply missed.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Karin Warnock; his three sons, Jeff Warnock, Ryan Warnock and his wife Amelia, and Kyle Warnock and his wife Juliet; and his siblings, George Warnock and his wife Lois, Carol Marraffini and her husband Phil, and Chris Warnock and his wife Dawn.

He is also lovingly remembered by his father-in-law, Robert Jankiewicz, whom he adored, along with his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, George Warnock and Stella Trancynger Warnock.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Tom’s life will be held in 2027, with details to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Tom’s memory to a charity of your choice.
