Nancy Baur and Dr. Bethany Fulton share their reflections from the Fred Rogers Conference.

One message stood out: Kindness is never too much and never enough. Children also need to know that when they need help, there are always helpers they can turn to.

At Refuge Counseling, we’re honored to be one of those helpers, providing a safe, compassionate space where children and families can find support, hope, and healing.

Because every child deserves to know they’re not alone.

At the Big Ohio Book Con in June, Nancy Baur had the pleasure of meeting author Florenza Lee. They shared a meaningful conversation about the many forms grief and loss can take for children, and how stories can help young readers process those experiences.

Florenza generously donated copies of several of her children’s books that explore themes of grief and loss, providing valuable resources for counselors supporting children through difficult experiences.

At Refuge Counseling, we’re grateful to independent authors like Florenza Lee who create compassionate, meaningful books that help children feel seen, understood, and supported.
