If you are staring at bottles, freezer bags, pump parts, weighted feeds, or your baby’s growth chart and wondering if the amount of milk you make says something about you…

It doesn’t.

Your milk supply is not a report card.

It is not a measure of how hard you are trying.
It is not proof of how much you love your baby.

And it is absolutely not a measure of your worth.

Milk production is biology, and biology is complicated.

Your supply can be impacted by hormones, anatomy, birth, blood loss, retained placenta, thyroid levels, PCOS, insulin resistance, medications, pumping fit, latch, baby’s feeding skills, timing, stress, sleep, and the kind of support you did or didn’t get.

That does not mean your body failed.
And it does not mean you didn’t work hard enough or try hard enough.

You are allowed to care about making milk.
You are allowed to grieve if feeding looks different than you hoped.
You are allowed to get support, make a change, combo feed, pump, use formula, keep going, stop, or do something in between.

But no matter how much milk you make…
Your baby still has you.

And you are worth so much more than ounces.

If the way you are feeding your baby isn’t working, it’s always OK to make a change.
But I want to be really clear.

That doesn’t mean someone else gets to push you into a change you don’t want.

It doesn’t mean a provider gets to dismiss your goals and say, “Just give a bottle,” when what you really want is help breastfeeding. And it doesn’t mean anyone gets to guilt you into pushing through pain, stress, exhaustion, or anxiety when your whole body is telling you something needs to change.

A feeding plan should not be something you are guilted into. It should be something you choose with good information, real support, and room for you to matter too.

Because guilt around feeding usually means something is out of alignment.

Maybe what you are doing doesn’t match what you want. Maybe what you want doesn’t match what you were told you were supposed to do. Maybe what you thought you wanted doesn’t feel good or sustainable now that your baby is actually here, and you are walking that mile in your own shoes.

That does not mean you failed.

You are allowed to want what you want.
You are allowed to change your mind.
You are allowed to keep going.
You are allowed to stop.

And you are allowed to choose a feeding plan that protects your baby and protects you too.

Good support should help you do any of that. Because the goal is not to make everyone else comfortable with how you feed your baby.

The goal is to find a way forward that feels supported, sustainable, and right for you.

A way that helps you feel connected to your baby, comfortable in your body, and like you have agency over your whole feeding experience.

Breast milk is important. It’s amazing, really.

But the benefits of your milk do not outweigh your baby’s need for a whole you.

That does not mean a provider gets to dismiss how you want to feed your baby because “fed is best.”
It does not mean someone gets to shrug at your goals and tell you to just give a bottle when you are struggling.

Because that’s not support. That’s dismissal.

What it means is that you get to decide what is best for your baby based on what is best for you too.
Because you matter more to your baby than your milk.

And you are the only person who can truly feel what allows you to show up, be present, and feel connected during feeding time.

Breast milk matters.
Breastfeeding can matter a whole lot.
But you matter even more.

There is no “easy way out” when it comes to feeding a baby.
I don’t think that exists.

There are choices that make feeding feel more doable. There are choices that let you breathe again. There are choices that help you stop dreading the next feeding. There are choices that let you look down at your baby and think,

“Oh. I can do this.”

That's not the easy way out. That's what happens when something finally starts working.
Feeding your baby is not supposed to be a test of how much you can endure.

It’s not a value hierarchy of good, better, best that applies the same way to every family and every situation.
So if changing something about feeding helps you feel more present, more calm, more connected, or more like yourself…
That matters.

But only if that change comes from you. Not from someone pushing you into something you don’t want.

Because it is OK to make a change.
It is not OK to be forced into one.

There is no easy way out of taking care of a baby.
None of this is easy.

And you're enough.

Combo feeding is an amazing way to feed a baby. And it counts as breastfeeding.

I know people can get weird about that, as if breastfeeding only counts if it looks one very specific way. As if adding bottles means the whole thing disappears. As if milk from your body only matters if it is the only thing your baby gets.

Nope.

If your baby gets breast milk, that counts. If your baby nurses sometimes, that counts. If your baby gets bottles too, that counts. If formula helps feeding feel more doable, that counts too.
Combo feeding is not the halfway version of feeding your baby. It is not “kind of” breastfeeding. It is not failure with better branding.

It is a real feeding plan.

And for a lot of families, it is the thing that makes breastfeeding possible, sustainable, and sane.
You are allowed to feed your baby in a way that works for your baby. And you are allowed to feed your baby in a way that works for you too.

Whether you want to breastfeed your baby for 6 days, 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years, you’re right.

You get to feed your baby as long as you want.

Society does not get to determine how you feed your baby. Other people do not get to determine how long you keep going. You do.

There is no one right way to do any of this.

Some parents want one good latch. Some want one week. Some want to make it through maternity leave or into or past toddlerhood.

None of those goals are morally better than the others.

What matters is that the goal is yours. Not something you were pressured into. Not something you keep chasing because you are afraid of being judged.

Yours.

Six days, six weeks, six months, or six years.

It all has value.
And it all matters.

It’s still breastfeeding, even if it’s only one drop.

Because breastfeeding is not a race where exclusive nursing wins first place and everyone else comes in last.

If your baby got your milk, it counts. If your baby latched once, it counts.
If you pumped a few drops, it counts.

If you breastfed for one feeding, one day, one week, or one tiny moment that mattered to you, it counts.
You are not less of a breastfeeding parent because your story was shorter, harder, messier, or looked different than what you hoped.

You are not coming in last.
You are in it.

And the effort, love, hope, grief, work, and care that went into feeding your baby matters.
Even if it was one drop.
Especially if it was hard.

Brains are funny things.
The harder something is, the more we compartmentalize it — and over time, the details get fuzzy.

That happens a lot with early parenting.
People don’t remember the hard parts, so they assume you must be doing something wrong.

You aren’t sleep training.
Or following a schedule.
Or feeding from a bottle.
Or giving them “enough” milk.

The truth is, they weren’t better at this than you are.
They’ve just forgotten how hard these moments can be.

This is your baby.
Your journey.
Your story.

And you aren’t doing it wrong.
It’s just really hard right now.

You’re going to get to the other side.

Does breastfeeding hurt when your baby latches?
Not “a little sore.”
Not “you’ll get used to it.”
We mean:

1. Sharp pain at latch
2. Ongoing soreness every feed
3. Feeding that feels stressful instead of bonding

That doesn’t have to be your normal.
Our 1:1 Latch Lessons give you real-time support so you can figure out what’s going on—and actually make feeding feel better for you and your baby.
No guessing. No pushing through pain alone.

If trying to feed your baby feels confusing,
it’s not you.

Babies aren’t consistent.
And neither is the advice about how to feed them.

Honestly, the internet is clearer
about feeding a baby turtle.

That’s why there isn’t one right way.
You only have to find what works for you.
