This looks like a normal pic on a normal day right?
Actually, I was dealing with shortness of breath, chest tightening, anxiety because I felt like I couldn't breathe, a painful, ruptured ovarian cyst, exhaustion from horrible sleep patterns, dehydration and feeling like I was about to pass out at any moment.
I STILL drove to work feeling like I was gonna pass out and worked my shift like nothing was wrong🤦🏾♀️ But I did at least let them know I wasn't feeling good. Thank God it was a short, light day.
I finally went to the ER late last night because I felt like garbage.
I was scheduled to work today and I was STILL going to go (and I wasn't gonna go to the ER)🤦🏾♀️ but I knew I wasn't fit to be at work. I knew if I went to work, it would've been a bad situation.
Yesterday, I FINALLY retired that "superwoman" tradition/culture that many of us women have adopted. Some learned from watching the women in our lives do everything with pride, never crying, folding, showing weakness, illness, etc. And some of us have been thrown into it by default because we lack the proper support system.
Being a nurse, I understand how simple medical situations can quickly go from "Oh, it's not that bad to wow, if she would have just gone to the doctor, she would still be here!"
I pay attention to my body and know when something is wrong. I sometimes hesitate seeking help, but the holy spirit and my nurse training always guide me properly.
I am encouraging men and women to drop all that nonsense that has been learned and pick up some common sense. There is nothing weak or wrong about missing work to seek necessary medical attention. Those things can wait, but if we wait, it may be too late.
I wasn't drinking water or anything like I should have because I was in pain from that ovarian cyst. That's how one thing starts and snowballs from there.
I am home resting. I just needed some IV fluids and the doc gave me some Ativan to help me sleep. I didn't have any blood clots or anything concerning.
Don't leave this earth prematurely. Don't put yourself in a position that could cause you permanent disability because you wanted to act like you got it all together.
