For me Today grounding begins with knowing where my feet are.

After ceremony, an energy exchange, clearing, or session, I’ve learned the importance of intentionally closing the space.

I feel my feet beneath me.
I breathe.
I clear the room.
I call my energy back to myself.
I release what isn’t mine to carry.

For me, this is part of honoring the work.

Holding space doesn’t mean holding everything.

It means being present, allowing the exchange, and then consciously returning home to myself.

Ground. Clear. Close. Come back to you. 🌿✨

For September, we’ve been exploring grounding. I’ve been thinking about grounding not only as a practice of coming back to ourselves, but as the process of taking what we learn and allowing it to change how we show up.

The more I learn, the more I understand the importance of humility in supporting others. People don’t need to be seen as broken or rescued. They deserve to be met with compassion, curiosity, and respect for their own wisdom and capacity.

I often come back to the idea of being the hollow bone, the empty chalice. Not needing to have all the answers, but continuing to learn, listen, and make space.

My desire to learn has become part of how I ground myself in the work I care about. What started simply as a love of helping others and bringing a little more joy into the world has slowly grown into something I feel deeply connected to.

So tonight, I’m spending some quiet time with a new book and a new perspective. There is always more to learn, more to integrate, and more room to grow.

We’re excited to welcome Kristen of Illuminating Light as our guest speaker at Gems in the Shadow this month.

Here’s a little more about Kristen, her journey, and the work she brings into the world, in her own words. We’re looking forward to sharing space with her on September 18.

Good Morning Sunshines 🌞

A little about me for those who dont know:

Hi, I’m Kristen. 😊
The woman behind Illuminating Light—and the very human soul behind the readings, healing, and teaching.
I’m an intuitive, medium, healer, teacher, business owner, mom, and a woman who has lived through enough chapters of life to know that healing rarely happens in a straight line.
I believe deeply in intuition—but I’m also incredibly human. I laugh a lot. I swear sometimes. 😂 I love the mountains, forests, long hikes, crystals, tattoos, meaningful conversations, and those moments when life gets quiet enough that you can finally hear yourself again.
My own life has taught me about grief, starting over, trusting myself, letting go, rebuilding, and learning that sometimes the person we’ve been searching for all along is the person looking back at us in the mirror.
And that has shaped the way I work with people.
I’m not here to tell you how to live your life or pretend I have all the answers. Whether I’m doing a reading, mediumship, healing work, or teaching a class, my intention is always the same:
to help you hear yourself a little more clearly.
To remind you of what you already carry within you.
Illuminating Light has grown and changed over the years because I have grown and changed too. And lately, I feel more like myself than I have in a very long time.
Less trying to become something.
More simply being.
So if you’re new here—welcome. 💖
And if you’ve been here for years, thank you for growing alongside me.
This is me. No fancy branding. No perfect spiritual persona.
Just Kristen.
And I think I like her quite a bit. 😉✨
Love and Light 💖

Honoring August — the month we sat with ourselves through Creative Expression. ✨

I’m grateful to have experienced this theme not only within our circle, but within my own life — embodying the art form of who I am becoming.

I’ve learned that creativity isn’t something separate from us. It lives in the way we move, the way we make, the way we nurture, the way we listen, and the way we allow ourselves to play.

In the energy flow of creating home remedies, practicing energy work, mentoring, working with sound, dancing, creating spaces, and simply being present with my children… I feel myself becoming more fully expressed.

And sometimes I pause and look around at the life I’ve created.

The people.
The community.
The work of my hands.
The moments of connection.
The laughter, movement, sound, and medicine.

And it brings me JOY. ❤️✨

Perhaps this is what creative expression truly is — not simply making something, but allowing the life within us to become visible.

To create from the soul.
To live what we love.
To become who we are. 🌿✨

Much ♥️
Katrina Wiese

As we wrap up a month of creative expression at Gems in the Shadow, we’re reflecting on the many ways creativity allows us to connect with ourselves and be truly seen.

Creative expression isn’t about being perfect or producing something beautiful. It’s about giving a voice to what lives within us. Through art, movement, music, writing, play, or simply trying something new, we make space for parts of ourselves that may have been hidden, quieted, or forgotten.

We’re especially grateful to Caitlin of Breathe Gaia for joining our August circle and sharing her presence, creativity, and gifts with our community. It was beautiful to learn from her and experience the thoughtful space she created for expression and connection.

Thank you to everyone who shared, created, and explored alongside us this month. May we continue making room for inspiration, authenticity, and the things that make us feel most alive.

This month at Gems in the Shadow, we’ve been exploring creative expression. For me, that includes how I allow myself to be truly seen.

This is me, soaking in the sunshine, making peace with my body. Honoring her. Finding my way back into love with myself.

Before becoming a mother, I had worked so hard to feel at home in myself. My self-esteem was hard earned, built through years of healing and learning to trust who I was. I wasn’t prepared to feel so lost after having my baby, or to struggle to recognize the woman I had fought so hard to become. I could love my daughter with everything in me and still miss myself.

There have been tears, postpartum depression and anxiety, and a disconnection from myself that I never expected. There has been anger over how that journey unfolded, over support I believed I would have that vanished when I needed it. I’m learning to release some of that anger while leaning into the family and beloved friends who have shown up.

Connecting with other mothers, hearing their stories, and growing in community has helped mend a piece of me that felt lost. As I heal, I’m remembering what this body has done.

I felt life growing inside my womb. All my hopes and dreams, with a little heart beating below my own. Now I hold that little girl and look into her beautiful eyes. I watch her become a confident, obstinate, smart, creative three year old hurricane.

My body created life. And through loving her and being loved by her, parts of me have found healing, too.

Making peace with my body feels like an act of creative expression. Letting myself be visible. Taking up space. Allowing joy, softness, and sunlight to touch the parts of me I’ve wanted to hide.

I love who I am. Every damn inch of the woman I’ve fought through hell to become.

Last week, Katrina and I spent a beautiful sunny day connecting with our local community at Gilly’s House Summerfest. We had mindfulness coloring sheets, intention setting, and so many meaningful conversations.

Katrina and I both come from recovery backgrounds, and we know how powerful supportive spaces and community connection can be. Gems in the Shadow is a compassionate, trauma-informed sacred space where we share integration techniques, spiritual practices, and opportunities to explore the deeper parts of ourselves together.

I’m so grateful we had the opportunity to share the mission of Gems, along with Katrina’s work through Matriarch Holistic Kare and her upcoming cacao ceremonies that move with the cycles of the year.

So appreciative of the sunshine, the conversations, and everyone who stopped by to connect with us and support our work.
