New research from Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California suggests heavy ma*****na smoking may raise the risk of both small cell and non-small cell lung cancer, and daily ma*****na use was also linked to much higher rates of head and neck cancers. Researchers say the clearest concern is chronic, heavy smoking, while the risks from occasional use are still unclear. There is not yet a clear lung cancer link for edible ma*****na, and long-term data on va**ng are still limited.

Studies suggest heavy ma*****na smoking could raise cancer risk, but researchers are still working to understand the long-term effects and the role of dosage.

A new study suggests COVID-19 may be linked to lung changes that could raise lung cancer risk over time, especially in current and former smokers. In patient records, lung cancer rates were slightly higher in people with prior COVID-19, and lab research pointed to inflammation, scarring, and tiny blood clots as possible drivers. The study does not prove that COVID-19 causes lung cancer, but it adds to the case for long-term lung monitoring and more research.

AI may help spot lung cancer risk earlier by analyzing CT scans for patterns that can be missed by the human eye, giving doctors another tool to identify who may need closer follow-up. Earlier detection matters because finding lung cancer sooner can mean more treatment options and a better chance at saving lives.

Some lung cancer cells may become resistant to chemotherapy by switching on a protein called YAP1 after treatment, helping them survive and spread, according to new research. Findings like this matter because they could lead to better ways to predict resistance, guide treatment, and develop therapies that stop lung cancer from coming back stronger.

A study found that YAP1 protein expression emerges after treatment, contributing to relapse in small cell lung cancer patients.
