Jay Goldberg enrolled in an early-stage trial that combined a new type of immunotherapy drug, tarlatamab, with the current first-line treatment for small-cell lung cancer. More than two years after his diagnosis, there are no detectable signs of cancer in his body.

People with small-cell lung cancer could live significantly longer on a novel immunotherapy, even when their cancer has spread, Phase 3 trial results show.

Pope Leo XIV shared that he will undergo surgery this week after doctors found a localized lung nodule at a very early stage. Most lung nodules are benign, but testing and timely follow up are essential because some may be cancer. We hope his story reminds everyone that early detection can save lives.

Small-cell lung cancer, an aggressive type that often spreads early, may finally be entering a targeted-treatment era. Immunotherapy after chemotherapy and radiation extended median survival from 33 to 56 months in limited-stage disease, while newer treatments such as tarlatamab help immune cells attack cancer more precisely. More advances are being tested.

Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) treatment is rapidly evolving through tarlatamab, ADCs, radioconjugates, CAR therapies and molecular subtype-guided strategies.
