Meet Maggie! 💚

We’re so excited to introduce Maggie as our new Functional Medicine Growth & Education Coordinator!

Maggie is a proud Chicagoan who earned her degree in Chemistry (with honors!) from the University of Illinois. She started on a traditional medical path, but the more she learned, the more she wanted to look beyond symptoms and understand the bigger picture: how nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, and lifestyle shape our health.

That curiosity led her to lead nutrition and lifestyle workshops for underserved communities, and eventually to become a Certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.

Maggie is going to be an amazing addition to our team! At Caim, she’ll help patients and our community take charge of the everyday habits that support long term health. Her approach is all about working WITH the body, not against it, and making healthy choices feel realistic and sustainable.

You’ll be seeing a lot more of her around the clinic, too. Maggie will be helping us host more workshops, community events, and educational opportunities, so stay tuned!

When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll find her in a dance class, on her yoga mat, taking long walks in nature, or in the kitchen (cooking is her love language!).

Drop a 👋 in the comments to welcome Maggie to the Caim family!

Waking up with jaw tension or a sore, tight feeling in your face during pregnancy is more common than people talk about. Between hormonal changes loosening up connective tissue all over your body and the physical and mental load of growing a human, a lot of women end up clenching more than they realize, especially at night.

It's not just about stress management. Your nervous system is doing a lot of adapting during pregnancy, and when it's staying in a more guarded or "on alert" state, that tension often shows up in your jaw without you consciously doing anything to cause it.

We look at how your spine and nervous system are functioning as part of addressing jaw tension during pregnancy, not just treating the jaw on its own. It's about supporting your body through everything it's adjusting to right now.

"Give it time" is common advice postpartum, and some of it is true, your body did just do something enormous. But when months have passed and things still feel unstable, achy, or disconnected, time alone usually isn't the missing piece.

Pregnancy and birth change how your core and pelvic floor work together, and that coordination doesn't just reset on its own once baby arrives. Your nervous system is what actually times and coordinates those stabilizing muscles as you move, and when that communication is off, it can show up as low back pain, pelvic instability, or a core that just doesn't feel like it's fully back online.

We check that regulation directly and build a plan around helping your body relearn that coordination, rather than assuming more time is the only answer.
We're proud to be a resource here in Austin for postpartum moms who want more than "give it time" as their only guidance.

New parenthood runs you into the ground, and somehow your body doesn't always let you actually rest even when you finally get the chance. You're exhausted all day, then lying there at night with your mind still running, and everyone just tells you that's what having a newborn is like.

Part of what's happening is your nervous system staying stuck in an "on alert" state, especially in those early months when you're listening for every sound and running on adrenaline more than actual rest. That state doesn't just switch off the second your head hits the pillow.

We look at how your nervous system is functioning as part of helping your body actually recover during this stage, not just pushing through it.

If wired-but-exhausted has become your normal, it's worth having someone look at the bigger picture! Comment below if you’d like to schedule a consult.

"My stomach hurts" is one of the most common things parents hear, and one of the hardest to figure out. You've cut out foods, watched for patterns, maybe even been told it's "just a nervous stomach," and you're still not closer to an answer.

Your child's gut has its own extensive nerve network, and it relies heavily on signals from the brain to function well, specifically the vagus nerve. When a child's nervous system is under stress or not communicating efficiently with the rest of the body, digestion is often one of the first things affected, regardless of what's on their plate that day.

We look at how your child's nervous system is functioning as part of understanding recurring stomach complaints, not just cycling through another food elimination.

If the stomachaches keep coming back with no clear cause, it might be worth having someone look at the bigger picture.

Sharp pain running down your hip, leg, or into your foot during pregnancy gets written off constantly. You're told it's just sciatica, it's common, it'll get better after the baby comes. And sometimes it does. But "common" doesn't mean there's nothing to look at in the meantime.

As your baby grows, your posture and pelvic alignment shift quite a bit, and those changes can put pressure on the nerves running down your leg. That's often what's behind the shooting pain, and it's connected to how your spine and nervous system are handling everything your body is adjusting to.
We look at how your spine and nervous system are adapting through pregnancy, which can be part of relieving that kind of nerve pain instead of just waiting it out.

Shooting leg pain during pregnancy isn't something you just have to push through until your baby comes.

Hours on a tablet or phone add up fast, and you can usually spot it: head dropped forward, shoulders rounded, that same posture whether they're doing homework or watching videos. It's become so “normal” that most people don't think twice about it.

The more the head tips forward, the more weight the neck has to support. Even a small forward tilt can noticeably increase the load on a child's neck and spine, and for a kid whose spine is still developing, that added strain adding up day after day can affect how the nervous system running through that area functions, not just how their posture looks.

We use INSiGHT scans to actually see how a child's spine and nervous system are functioning under that kind of repetitive strain, instead of just guessing based on posture alone.

Posture habits built now don't just disappear once the phone gets put down for the day. The good news is these patterns are much easier to address now, while their spine is still developing, and small shifts today can make a real difference for how their body handles the years of screen time still ahead.

"It's just growing pains" is one of the most common things parents hear when a child complains of achy legs at night, and it's often said as a way to move past it rather than actually look into it. Some of that really is a normal part of childhood. Some of it isn't.

That nighttime achiness is often connected to how evenly a child's body has been bearing weight and moving all day. Kids fall, run, jump, and land awkwardly constantly, and that accumulated strain doesn't always show up right away. It tends to surface once the body finally slows down at night, and how well it gets managed comes down a lot to how well the nervous system is regulating muscle tone and movement patterns overall.

We check your child's alignment and nervous system function directly, instead of defaulting every ache to "just growing pains."

Headaches during pregnancy are common, but "common" doesn't mean normal and that you have to just deal with it until baby comes. A lot of women are told there's not much they can do since medication options are limited, so they end up gritting their teeth through it.

What often gets missed is that pregnancy changes your posture and the curve of your spine pretty significantly, and those shifts can affect how your nervous system is functioning, especially in the neck and upper back. That's frequently part of what's driving the headache, not just hormones.

We look at how your spine and nervous system are adapting through pregnancy, which can be part of addressing headaches without relying on medication. It's about supporting your body through the changes it's already going through.
