Why do I use ultrasound for some shoulder injections?

Ultrasound isn’t something I use just because I can. I use it when it can add value—particularly when an injection needs to be placed with greater precision or when I need to safely navigate around specific anatomy.

I’ve had advanced training in ultrasound through fellowship and additional advanced courses, and research has shown that ultrasound-guided injections can be more accurate than landmark-guided (“blind”) injections.

But one of my favorite benefits is that ultrasound allows us to see anatomy in real time. I can dynamically evaluate structures like the rotator cuff and biceps tendon as they move, while the patient can see what I’m seeing.

That makes the experience more interactive and gives patients an opportunity to visualize and better understand their treatment.

Ultrasound is a tool. Knowing when and how to use it is what matters.

Thanks Tonya Simpson Kerr for letting me sharing your experience.

There are several different types of injections I can use to help treat knee pain, and they don’t all work the same way.

If your knee is slowing you down, let’s talk about your options.

🏈 Friday night football is back!

Hard to believe it’s been 21 years since I graduated from Pflugerville High School in 2005. A lot has changed since then, but it’s pretty special to still see some of the great coaches who were there when I played.

And apparently my name is still hanging around too… 4.33 in the 40 back in 2003! 😂 I’m probably better off leaving that one in the record books rather than trying it again.

These days, one of my favorite parts of football season is getting to be involved with high school athletics and the communities around them. I’m fortunate to spend time with both Pflugerville and Bastrop, and I’ve developed some incredible relationships with the athletes, coaches, trainers, families, and people in both communities.

The older I get, the more I appreciate that high school football is about so much more than football. It’s community, relationships, tradition, and people showing up for each other. I can’t wait for my son Hudson Samson Walker to experience this!

Go Pflugerville Panthers! 🐾💙💛
Go Bastrop Bears! 🐻💜🤍
Let’s have a great season! 🏈

Aleigh’s road back has been long, challenging, and filled with more determination than I can put into words.

After a traumatic accident in 2024, Aleigh faced multiple surgeries and several orthopedic surgeries with me, including an osteochondral Allograft procedure to address significant bone and cartilage loss from her traumatic injury.

Her recovery wasn’t a straight line. It involved plenty of ups and downs. But through it all, Aleigh kept pushing forward.

And now, seeing her back out there playing pickleball is pretty incredible.

I’m so happy for Aleigh and her family. Watching her work her way back to an active life has meant so much to me, and I’m incredibly grateful to have been one of her surgeons through this process.

Keep going, Aleigh.

Wondering if it’s time to see an orthopedic surgeon for your knee pain?

These are three signs that it’s time to make an appointment.

AI is changing healthcare in a lot of ways.

One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed is that patients are coming to appointments more informed. They often have a better understanding of their condition and come prepared with questions.

At the same time, AI is helping physicians spend less time on administrative work and more time talking with patients.

That’s a change I’m glad to see.

A meniscus tear doesn’t automatically put you on the path to the operating room.

In fact, 70-80% of meniscus tears do well with conservative treatment.

Shoulder replacement surgery has come a long way.

Using advanced CT imaging, I can plan your procedure before you ever enter the operating room, allowing me to select the best implant fit and prepare every step in advance. That means a more personalized approach and less time under anesthesia.

Technology continues to improve the way we care for patients—and that’s exciting.
