🚑 Ever wondered about the history behind the EMT patch?
Before modern EMS, ambulance attendants came from different backgrounds, including funeral homes, volunteer rescue squads, hospitals, and fire departments. Training and uniforms varied widely.
In 1966, the landmark report Accidental Death and Disability helped spark major changes in emergency medical services.
By 1969, a national EMT-Ambulance training curriculum had been developed. By 1971, EMT training patches were already being used to recognize those completing emergency medical training.
Over the decades, EMT patches evolved into different designs, often featuring the Star of Life, state emblems, and department insignia.
⭐ Different patches, different generations, but the same dedication to helping others.
