25 years later, we will never forget.

Following the events of September 11th, our Kern County community responded the way it so often does, by coming together. Many stepped forward to donate blood, simply because they wanted to help.

Amid the uncertainty was an incredible sense of generosity, compassion, and unity. It was a powerful reminder of what can happen when communities come together for the greater good.

Today, we remember the lives lost, honor the bravery and sacrifice of first responders, and reflect on the incredible strength shown by communities across our nation.

This evening, we welcome our guests to the Gala to Give, commemorating 75 years of Houchin Community Blood Bank and the incredible community that has stood alongside our mission throughout the decades.

As we honor this milestone, the evening will also help support Houchin’s continued lifesaving work and ensure our mission remains strong for the years ahead. ❤️

A quick heads-up for our donors! Our Oswell Donor Center will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, September 15th for scheduled maintenance.

The center will reopen Wednesday, September 16th with regular operating hours.

September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month. ❤️🩸

Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells, causing some cells to become hard, sticky, and sickle-shaped. These cells can have difficulty moving through blood vessels, which may lead to pain and other serious complications.

For some people living with sickle cell disease, blood transfusions are an important part of treatment, helping replace sickled cells with healthy red blood cells.

That’s where blood donors can make a meaningful difference. By giving blood, you’re helping ensure lifesaving blood products are available for those who may need ongoing transfusion support.

🩸 Monday, September 7: All Houchin locations will be CLOSED in observance of Labor Day.

🩸 Tuesday, September 8: All locations will reopen for regular operating hours, EXCEPT our Oswell location, which will remain temporarily closed for scheduled maintenance.
