I’ve been sitting on this video for quite some time now, and if I were to record it again in real time, my words today might be a little more gentle. My demeanor might be a little more passive. But here, that abandonment wound is just a couple days fresh. And I’m no longer in the business of masking my humanity.

It’s been almost two months since my parents left me on read and unfollowed me online. It’s been almost two months since the people who promised to keep me safe chose willful ignorance over productive discomfort.

I’ve been sitting with that in silence. Sitting with the grief, the rage, the confusion, the literal agony. My heart hearts. But my heart has been telling me that continuing to share my life’s experience, regardless of how it’s perceived, heals the part of me that was too afraid to speak up when I was younger, the version of me who feared this very type of abandonment.

I do hope that they do the inner work, and I do hope to have a relationship with them again…but I can’t keep holding my breath waiting for hope to come when the simple reality is: my white parents chose to abandon their Black child instead of confronting their internalized and inherited racism.

The trauma that we go through is not our fault…but it is our responsibility to heal it. So, this is me: vulnerable, speaking up, and healing…on my own terms. Cheers to growth, whatever that looks like.

So, what does practicing yoga look like in real life?

This is just a small piece of a much bigger conversation. Link in bio to hear the full episode 🫶🏽

I’ve been a published poet for almost three years, but I’ve never actually shared my poetry with my own voice…until now.

Last night I had the opportunity to share a poem at a lovely ice cream social hosted by NAMI Metro Baltimore and B’More Clubhouse

I was more nervous than excited, but everybody there created such a warm and welcoming environment. And it was really cool to see so many other people display their talents, too

The Book of Healing is available worldwide on Amazon and also available on my site 📘

Thank you to my dear friend Abby Cruz for coming out to support me and for documenting this moment for me 🫶🏽

This is your reminder that it’s okay to be afraid…be scared and do the damn thing anyway. It’s worth it 💜🐺
