Please join us in welcoming Christian, our new Dining Director at Birch Bay Village!

Christian brings more than 25 years of culinary and food service experience to Birch Bay. A Connecticut native, he began cooking in high school before serving in the U.S. Air Force. He later graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and went on to build an extensive career as an Executive Chef, Chef/Manager, and Traveling Chef throughout Connecticut and New York.

Most recently, Christian worked with Compass at Graymoor, home of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in New York’s Hudson Valley.

Outside of work, Christian enjoys the outdoors and is the proud father of 20-year-old twin daughters.

We’re excited to welcome Christian to Birch Bay Village and look forward to all he will bring to our Dining Services team!

The BEE Award recognizes outstanding team members who go above and beyond to provide exceptional care, kindness, and service throughout MDI Health, including Mount Desert Island Hospital, our Health Centers, and Birch Bay Village.

🌼 Sally Jordan-Sprague

As one of the long team members of the Safe Harbor staff, Sally is a dedicated and caring team member. She is a steady presence for our memory care residents. Sally’s Bee Award recognized her kindness and willingness to provide thoughtful and personalized care.

🌼 Allison Lovejoy

Allison is another longtime and valued member of the Birch Bay team. You’ll often find her working in both the housekeeping and dining services departments, where she has a wonderful knack for knowing residents’ preferences and finding little ways to make their days brighter. Allison’s Bee Award recognizes her outstanding commitment to customer service and the care and kindness she brings to our residents each day.

The BEE Award is open to all staff members, and nominations may be submitted by employees, residents, and family members. Nomination forms are available in the Birch Bay Village main lobby and staff breakroom. Every nominee receives a certificate and special BEE pin! 🐝

MDI Health to Honor Mount Desert Nursing Association with 2026 Impact Award

MDI Health will honor Mount Desert Nursing Association (MDNA) as its 2026 Community Partner of the Year during the organization’s Annual Meeting and Community Celebration on Tuesday, September 15.

“Mount Desert Nursing Association exemplifies the power of community partnership,” said Chrissi Maguire, President and CEO of MDI Health. “Its nurses bring skilled, compassionate care directly into people’s homes, helping patients navigate illness, recovery, and some of life’s most difficult moments. We are deeply grateful for MDNA’s service and the important role it plays in the health of our community.”
