🎉 Employee Highlight: Kasey 🎉

This month, we're celebrating Kasey's 3-year anniversary with Step by Step Pediatric Therapy!

As our office administrator, Kasey is often the first voice families hear on the phone and the first smile they see when they arrive. She loves welcoming patients and helping families feel comfortable from the moment they walk through our doors.

When she's not at the clinic, Kasey enjoys sewing, hand embroidery, cooking, and baking. She'll also tell you that collecting supplies for a project is sometimes just as fun as making it! 🧵🪡🍪

Please remember that some children may experience sensory challenges around fireworks and large celebrations. A little preparation and support can go a long way in helping everyone enjoy the festivities. ❤️

Fireworks can be exciting for some children and extremely overwhelming for others 🎆

For children with sensory sensitivities, autism, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, or auditory sensitivities, the loud sounds, crowds, bright flashes, smells, heat, and unpredictability can quickly overload their nervous system.

A few ways to help 💛

• Prepare ahead of time by talking through what to expect
• Bring sensory supports like headphones 🎧 or comfort items 🧸
• Allow movement breaks and quiet spaces 🌿
• Avoid forcing participation if a child is distressed
• Consider alternatives to large public firework events ✨

Signs a child may be overwhelmed can include:

• Covering their ears
• Crying
• Hiding
• Aggression
• Shutting down
• Irritability
• Trying to leave
• Behaviors that are actually stress responses

Remember 🤍 A child struggling during fireworks is not "being difficult." Their nervous system may genuinely feel unsafe or overloaded.

Sometimes the most supportive choice is modifying the tradition altogether.

Sometimes the signs are obvious. Sometimes it looks like frustration, difficulty being understood, trouble following directions, or challenges with social interaction.

💙 Meet Zoran 💙

Today, for Rare Chromosome Disorder Awareness Day, we're celebrating Zoran. 🧬

Zoran is a loving, funny, and sassy 10-year-old who loves spending time with the new kittens at home 🐱 and is a lover of all things creepy and crawly. He is determined to participate in the things he enjoys and always finds a way to join in, using his strengths to do his very best.

One of Zoran's biggest accomplishments has been learning to communicate using both his words and his tablet. His family shares that he has come farther than anyone ever thought possible, and they continue to celebrate every step of his journey. ❤️

His mom says one of her favorite things is hearing him say, "I love you." Those simple words are something she once wasn't sure she would ever hear, making them all the more special.

Today, we also want to share an important reminder from Zoran's family: beyond the diagnoses, limitations, and extra support needs is a 10-year-old boy who wants friends, inclusion, and love, just like any other child.

His momma said it best: "My child is not defined by a diagnosis. He is made exactly how God intended." ✨

Thank you, Zoran, for helping us celebrate Rare Chromosome Disorder Awareness Day and for reminding us that every child deserves to be seen for who they are. 💙

Have you noticed your baby tends to look the same direction most of the time? 👶

This can be a sign of torticollis and it’s something we see all the time.

A few things to keep an eye on:
• Head tilt ↘️
• Prefers looking one way 👀
• Has a hard time turning their head both directions 🔄

The good news is this is very treatable, especially when it’s caught early ✨

Simple changes, stretches, and therapy can make a big difference in how your baby moves and develops.

If something feels off, trust that instinct and ask your pediatrician or reach out to us. We are always happy to help 💛
