Unless you were just in a high-impact car accident, your bones did not magically slide out of place.

If a practitioner tells you your spine or pelvis is “misaligned” or “out,” it’s a massive red flag. That language is not only scientifically outdated, it’s dangerous. It breeds fear, makes you feel fragile, and makes you afraid to move.

You’re not stupid. You deserve to know what is actually happening.

HERE’S THE SCIENCE:
Your body isn’t a loose Jenga tower; it’s held together by some of the strongest ligaments in nature. When you get that sudden, agonizing pain from doing something minor (like sneezing or picking up a sock), your bones haven’t shifted. Your nervous system just panicked.

When your brain perceives a threat - from stress, fatigue, or an awkward movement - it pulls the emergency brake to protect you.

It orders the muscles around your spine or hip to lock down into a spasm (which can be really, REALLY irritating/painful, to say the least).

Your joints aren’t displaced; they are just being held in a protective death grip by your own muscles.

Decades of modern pain science prove that non-traumatic back pain is rarely a structural disaster. Pain is a reflection of sensitivity and emotional responses, not structural damage.

You do not need to be “put back in place.” You need to show your nervous system that it is safe to let go.

Move gently. Breathe. And fire any practitioner who tries to sell you fear instead of empowerment. 💪

How many times have you told yourself:

“I can’t workout with my kids running around”

“It’s not the same at home”

“I’ll start once things quiet down at work next month”

If you rely on the perfect environment to make progress you will never get the results you’re looking for

AND

you might check in with yourself here, because when cling to these narratives, we are doing that because that means it can’t be our fault if we aren’t reaching our goals (hi 👋 self sabatoge). Also, spoiler alert - it IS your responsibility.

Blaming things on your environment without changing anything or being flexible is a choice, my friends. Don’t get trapped here.

Life is inherently messy. There will always be a kid asking for a snack, a messy living room, a late meeting, or a bad night’s sleep.

If your routine requires 100% silence, the perfect temperature, and zero distractions, you aren’t building a habit. You’re waiting for a freakin’ miracle.

The secret sauce is to stop waiting for the stars to align and start embracing what you have.

An interrupted 15-minute home workout beats a perfect 60-minute gym session you never actually go to.

Doing planks while your kids climb on you is still working out.

Walking around the block in your work clothes is still movement.

Consistency isn’t about finding the perfect setup. It’s about being flexible enough to win with a flawed one.

Drop the “all-or-nothing” mindset. You might be using it as a crutch to stay stuck, because then it’s “not your fault” if you aren’t getting what you want.

What’s one small thing you can do today, exactly where you are, with the setup you have?

I haven’t talked much about my strength & hypertrophy group, but the deserve their flowers (and I very much regret not having more pictures - gotta work on that for the remainder because it deserves to be documented).

Last fall, I moved away from the group coaching model. Truthfully, it just wasn’t aligned with my values or the level of help I actually wanted to give. I felt like something was missing, and I had to step back to find my middle ground. I needed some space and time to process.

This group is the result of that pivot.

Working with people who lead with a growth mindset has made all the difference. The consistency, the ownership, and the growth I’m seeing is so good. They show up when life is loud, they adapt when there’s “no time,” and they never lead with excuses.

This wasn’t even my idea initially-but it’s exactly what I (and they) needed. This proved that it can be done very well and in a way that feels aligned and powerful. I’m so grateful for the nudge and grateful for the chance to work with these people. They’ve upheld the standard that I’d hoped would embody this experience and I would 10/10 do it again. 🤜🤛

Pain tries to convince you to doubt yourself, AND you get to speak truth back.

When you’re hurting, the loudest part isn’t always the injury. It’s the story you tell yourself about it.

“I’m getting worse.”
“I always fall apart.”
“My body can’t handle this anymore.”
“These things always happen to me.”

That story shapes your decisions.
Your decisions shape your capacity.
And your capacity shapes your recovery.

If you want to heal, you can’t let pain narrate your identity.

Pain isn’t proof you’re broken, it’s feedback and YOU get to decide what it means.

Start with how you speak to yourself.
Your body follows your beliefs.

One of the most common questions I get is: “Is this like a gym?”

The answer is no. It actually started as CrossFit gym, so I understand the confusion. We used to do group fitness only, and now this space is primarily a private training studio.

Back when we did the group fitness thing, CrossFit or otherwise, I kept seeing the same thing: people who were motivated and trying hard, but traditional fitness just wasn’t serving them. All they were getting was a good sweat, and honestly, you can get that anywhere (and for less than I charged for it).

Not only that, but everyone’s needs and goals and backgrounds and experiences and lifestyles are just so different and programming for the masses just… wasn’t working. AND MOST PEOPLE were dealing with very specific pains and injuries and it became a scaling nightmare that never actually addressed the roots of the problems people were dealing with.

People who have pain are being told two different things:

☝️Medical care says they’re “fine.”

✌️Fitness says to just push harder.

I got really sick of it. I felt useless and helpless and knew something had to give.

And with that, the Refinery evolved into something different. Something BETTER.

Now, we use prescriptive exercise, mentorship, and education to help people rebuild a body that can handle their life AND THEN SOME.

Most of the people who come here are dealing with things like:

tendonitis
chronic knee pain
frozen shoulder
disc and back issues
strength imbalances
returning to exercise after surgery
surviving cancer
carrying babies

Things people are often told to just “live with” OR just don’t get any support at all with.

So we start with assessment. Then we build strength, confidence, and capacity so you can get back to doing the things you care about OR DOING THINGS FOR THE FIRST TIME.

Hiking
Traveling
Playing with your kids
Getting on the floor
Living your LIFE

We do not just create workout programs here or try to make you sweat.

We assess, we develop, we build.

We educate and advocate.

We address the whole person with a clear plan and a wealth of knowledge and expertise to guide the way.

If you’ve been feeling stuck between “you’re fine” and “just push harder,” you’re probably exactly the kind of person this place was built for.

Reason 1: No assessment = no coaching.
If you want random workouts, I’m not it. We test, we look at how you move, your history, what hurts, what matters.

Reason 2: Pain isn’t something we ignore here.
We follow a framework. Build tolerance and resilience. Load with intention. We don’t live in fear.

Reason 3: I won’t pretend the basics don’t matter.
Sleep. Steps. Protein. Stress. If you want to skip the foundation and blame your metabolism forever, I’m not your coach.

Reason 4: I work on real timelines. Think months, not weeks.
If you want a 6-week transformation, go buy a challenge.

Reason 5: I will call you up (and sometimes out).
If you say you “don’t have time” but your screen time says otherwise, we’re going to talk about it. Because ownership is part of the process.

Still want to work together?
Good. That means you’re ready for coaching that helps you step into the best version of yourself.

Anyone can make you sweat. This isn’t… that. This is different.

Message READY and I’ll send you the next steps.

Is your pain a red flag… or just a yellow one?

Red Flags = medical concerns → doctor needed

Yellow Flags = fear of movement, unhelpful beliefs → coach can help

Too often, people confuse the two and stop moving altogether. The truth? Yellow flags don’t need to hold you back. With the right plan, you can move past fear and back into life.

Ready to figure out if your pain is a red flag or a yellow one?

I’ve got a simple first step that helps you get clarity and a real plan forward. I’ll add the link to book your free consultation in the comments 👇

Stop guessing. Start moving forward.
