On Saturday, we kicked off National Assisted Living Week with our “senior prom” with the theme of Shining Through the Years, and what a magnificent time we had! Our residents dressed up in their best formal prom attire, enjoyed music and dancing, refreshments, a photo booth, and celebrating with family, friends and staff. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who made this possible: our incredible activities and culinary teams, any staff member who dedicated their time to doing hair and makeup for residents, anyone who donated prom attire, Whole Heart Studios for the incredible photos, Keith Campbell for the music, and Jeanne Willis for everything that you did to help us get ready!

Thank you to the wonderful team at Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter, Inc. for having us in this week to visit with some furry friends! Our residents made homemade treats for the animals, and we had so much fun delivering them. We love to give back to our community, animals included!

We are hosting a “senior” prom for our residents in September, and we need your help to make sure they are ready for the occasion! We are kindly asking for prom attire donations so that each member of our community can look their best for the festivities. We are hoping to receive donations by Thursday, September 10th. Donations of any kind are greatly appreciated!

Happy National Senior Citizens Day! Today we recognize the impact of older adults on our community and celebrate their knowledge and wisdom, and the impact they have on each and every one of us. We also celebrate their incredible dance moves!

One of the most fulfilling parts of our community is having the opportunity to hear our residents’ backstories and learn more about their life. Everyone has a story to tell, and some residents recently shared their former professions with us. Their knowledge expands across different industries, and we are lucky to learn from them!

We loved hearing their answers and learning more about the causes and people that matter most to them.

At Spring Oak, giving back is built into our programming, creating opportunities for residents to support others and stay connected.

This summer, our residents have been busy doing just that through local give-back projects, donations, care packages, and acts of appreciation for others.

When you spend all day rolling to activities and being social with friends, sometimes you need to have your wheels cleaned. That’s where we come in! This week we had a wheelchair car wash for anyone who needed fresh wheels or just needed some relief from the summer heat. It was so much fun!

Today we get to celebrate someone very special to our Spring Oak Bedford family. An irreplaceable member of our activities team is embarking on her next journey into a much-deserved retirement after over 30 years of delivering wonderful memories and experiences to our residents. Caroll has cared for so many people through the years and brought joy to everyone around her. We look forward to her delicious baked treats every Thursday, and we hope she comes back and bakes with us from time to time in the future!

Caroll, you’ve earned every moment of relaxation that is coming your way, and we will miss you dearly.
