We are turning on the lights in Santa’s workshop! Spring Oak Bedford is starting preparations for our beloved Christmas lights, and we are asking for help from our Bedford community. We are kindly asking for donations of multi-outlet, heavy duty extension cords to power our displays this season. We are specifically in need of UL rated cords that have an outlet every few feet, if possible.
If you would like to help us with our efforts this season, please drop off extension cords to the concierge desk at the front entrance. We are incredibly grateful for our community and any support we will receive.

We never take for granted that we have the most beautiful scenery that nature can offer in our backyard, and we make sure our residents get to enjoy it! We had the pleasure of a guided tour of Smith Mountain Lake State Park led by Senior Park Ranger Sue Beeler on Tuesday where she told us about the history of the park, the wildlife that inhabits the lake, native tree species, and information about the historic buildings like the to***co shed. Our tour concluded with a picnic at the Discovery Center at the edge of the lake and a trip into the butterfly exhibit. We even had some special little visitors join us!

Thank you to Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park and our activities team for such a memorable and educational outing for our residents.

We’re excited to announce auditions for the first show of our 51st season, Wait Until Dark, opening in September! Director Desirèe Baughman will hold auditions on Sunday, July 19th & Tuesday, July 21st at 7PM at the theatre for this classic thriller that’s sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats and unsure of what will happen next!

Roles are available for one woman, six men, and one female adolescent. Please refer to comments below for character descriptions, and feel free to email Desirèe with any questions. We CAN’T WAIT to see you at auditions! 🔥💡🔥

Our activities team is making sure that everyone is cruising into this July 4th week in style! We are excited to celebrate this special milestone of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with patriotic crafts, an Independence Day picnic, and a spectacular front porch view of the fireworks show on Friday.

It’s been a week full of celebrations, visitors and activities with friends! Thank you to The Chamber Choir for coming to perform for our residents. We were also treated to a wonderful presentation of all things Smith Mountain Lake State Park from Senior Park Ranger Sue Beeler on behalf of Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Our residents loved hearing about activities and service opportunities that the state park has to offer, including pontoon boat tours, Music in the Park series, the butterfly garden, and so much more!

We wrapped up CNA week with gifts from the heart! Our CNA team work so hard each and every day to care for our residents with compassion and dignity, and our residents wanted to show their appreciation by decorating flowerpots and making thank you cards. Thank you to the best care team!

Thank you to Bower Center For The Arts for hosting us today for the Charles M. Schulz exhibit. We enjoyed the collection and learned more about the artist and his ties to our area. Did you know that the Peanuts creator was a World War II veteran and an instrumental part in the opening of the National D-Day Memorial in our town? He served as the first National D-Day Memorial Foundation Capital Campaign Chair! The exhibit is wonderfully curated and nostalgic, and we encourage everyone to go see it.
