Protecting children starts with knowing the signs and speaking up.

Mountain Comprehensive Care Center and its Healing Program for Survivors of Sexual Assault and Interpersonal Violence joined partners throughout Kentucky this October to recognize TEN-4 Day 2026 and strengthen efforts to recognize, report, and prevent child abuse.

Observed annually on October 4, TEN-4 Day raises awareness of the TEN-4-FACESp Bruising Rule, a tool that helps identify concerning bruising in young children. Bruising on the Torso, Ears, or Neck in children under four, or any bruising on a baby four months or younger, can be a warning sign that needs attention. Learn about the full rule at www.faceitabuse.org/ten4rule.

Everyone in Kentucky has a responsibility to report suspected child abuse or neglect. If you have reason to believe a child is being harmed, report it immediately by calling 1-877-KYSAFE1 (1-877-597-2331). If a child is in immediate danger, call 911.

As a proud partner of the Kosair for Kids Face It Movement, MCCC is committed to helping communities recognize warning signs, support families, and protect children.

We extend our sincere thanks to the leaders who supported this year’s proclamation efforts: Clark County Judge/Executive R.J. Palmer; Estill County Judge/Executive Donnie Watson; Floyd County Judge/Executive Robbie Williams; Jackson Mayor Laura Thomas; Johnson County Judge/Executive Mark McKenzie; Magoffin County Judge/Executive Don McFarland; Martin County Judge/Executive Dr. Lon Lafferty; Paintsville Mayor Bill Runyon; Pike County Judge/Executive Ray Jones II; Prestonsburg Mayor Rick Hughes; and Wolfe County Judge/Executive Raymond Banks.

Thank you for your leadership and commitment to keeping Kentucky’s children safe.
