🔥Athlete of the Month - Tegan🔥
History of injury/care?
During my senior football season I started physical therapy due to extreme pain and tightness in my lower legs. I was later diagnosed with bilateral stress fractures in both tibias as well as hypothesized compartment syndrome.

Can you share a lesson this physical impairment has taught you?
Something this has taught me is just how important it is to always try your best, because at any moment, you can be hit with a huge setback.

What has been your favorite part of Physical Therapy and why?
My favorite part of physical therapy was the bond I built with my therapist. Every day I came in I would spill my problems and drama. She was always there to give advice and loved hearing any new information in my chaotic life.

What are your plans after graduation?
I am going to college at a private school in Ohio to study chemistry and biochemistry while running track, something only possible because of the rehab I have had with physical therapy.

✨Meet the Team - Belle Fourche edition - Dr. Jamie Schweiss✨
Dr. Jamie attended South Dakota State University and obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science. Also, during her time at South Dakota State University, she became a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM-EP). She then went on to attend the University of South Dakota where she obtained a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.

While at the University of South Dakota, her fascination with the nervous system and its profound impact on human mobility drove her to pursue a career in neurologic physical therapy. She believes that understanding and harnessing the power of neurorehabilitation can truly transform lives.

As a student, she was selected for clinical rotations at leading rehabilitation hospitals for neurologic injuries and diseases in the Midwest including Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE and Avera in Sioux Falls. While training under leading neurologic experts, she was able to implement principles of neuroplasticity and utilize innovative techniques and technology. These experiences allowed her to encounter the intricacies in treating conditions such as TBI, CVA, Parkinson’s, MS, SCIs, in addition to acute and chronic dizziness.

In the realm of physical therapy, the specialization in neurologic conditions demands a unique blend of knowledge, skill, and empathy. Driven by her passion, Dr. Jamie pursued rigorous academic training, earning advanced degrees in physical therapy with a focus on neurology. Her clinical experiences in clinics and hospitals have shaped her clinical expertise and patient-centered approach. She is grateful to be practicing in the Northern Hills and as an advocate for neurorehabilitation, she looks forward to connecting with patients who have neurologic conditions.

Huge thank you to Representative Dusty Johnson and Senator Mike Rounds for supporting physical therapy in rural South Dakota! 🙌

Access matters—and being able to recruit PTs to serve our rural communities is key to keeping our friends, neighbors, and families healthy, active and doing what moves them!! 💪💜 We’re grateful to have leaders who truly understand that.

Dr. Julie serves as the APTA Federal Affairs Liaison for South Dakota and travels to Washington, D.C. each year to advocate for our patients and our profession—because rural healthcare matters!

Rep Johnson and Senator Rounds both agreed to sponsorship to add physical therapists to the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment program and Community Health Centers (CHCs).

This is a major win for South Dakota—not only expanding access to care in our rural and underserved communities, but also creating critical loan repayment opportunities for PTs. This support is truly transformational for our state, our future workforce, and the patients we serve. We are deeply grateful for their leadership and commitment to PT and our state's health and wellness. 🇺🇸💜
