STOP AND THINK.

If a stranger handed you a pill and said, “Trust me,” most of us would be cautious.

So why do we assume it’s different when it comes from:

A friend.

A coworker.

A relative.

An uncle.

Someone we trust.

One of the most dangerous beliefs in our culture is that a pill is somehow safer because of who it comes from.

My son Nick made a choice.

He took a pill that was not prescribed to him.

He is accountable for that choice.

And he paid for that choice with his life.

But the conversation cannot end there.

Because another question deserves to be asked:

Why have we normalized it?

Why do people buy pills from friends and family?

Why do people sell prescription pills to others?

Why do we act as though a pill becomes safe simply because we know the person handing it to us?

Counterfeit pills don’t care who handed them to you.

Trust cannot identify fentanyl.

The counterfeit pill that killed Nick didn’t ask who he trusted.

It only needed him to trust someone.

The conversation shouldn’t just be:

“Why did he take it?”

It should also be:

“Why did so many people help make it seem safe?”
