Just a chiropractor mom casually calculating the future weight of her 8th grader’s backpack. 😂 but seriously..
As a chiropractor AND a mom, I can’t help but think about the extra stress those heavy backpacks can put on our kids’ growing bodies.
A few simple things to keep in mind this school year:
🎒 Keep the backpack as light as possible — ideally around 10–15% of their body weight
🎒 Use both straps and adjust them so the backpack sits snug against the body
🎒 Pack heavier items closest to the back
🎒 Pay attention to neck, shoulder or back discomfort, or changes in posture
🎒 And make sure those growing spines are getting checked and adjusted!
Between school, sports, activities, screens, growth spurts AND heavy backpacks, our kids’ bodies are constantly adapting. Supporting healthy movement and function can make a big difference. ❤️
