Our DSPs play such an important role in supporting participants as they pursue goals, build connections, and thrive in their communities in ways that matter to them! Their dedication helps ensure that everything runs smoothly and, most importantly, that our participants have the support they need to succeed.

WE'RE HIRING!

United Ability is Hiring a Speech Language Pathologist to work in homes as well as out in the community providing Early Intervention services to our participants ages birth through three years old.

In this role you will be responsible for providing evaluations and speech therapy for children who have speech delays and/or communication needs. Working to develop and improve independent communication abilities so that the child can reach their maximum independence!

Creativity takes flight when the community comes together!

A huge thank you to Julien from Troop 53 for choosing United Ability for his Eagle Scout project and building a collection of birdhouses to be displayed on our campus. Julien thoughtfully designed different houses for different types of birds, creating a hands-on opportunity for program participants to learn about birds, nature, and the world around them.

We’re equally grateful to AmFirst for bringing volunteers to assist adult participants at Dr. E’s Place as they painted and personalized the birdhouses. Their support helped turn Julien’s project into an engaging, community-wide experience filled with creativity and connection.

Together, Julien and AmFirst created something meaningful that will be enjoyed for years to come. Thank you both for bringing this project to life!🏡🐦

☀️ What an incredible summer it was with Summer JET! ☀️
Since closing out another amazing season in August, we are taking a moment to celebrate the growth, accomplishments, and memories made this summer. Our students showed up ready to learn, work, build confidence, and take on new challenges, and we could not be more proud of them!
Throughout the summer, students gained valuable hands-on work experience, developed new skills, built relationships with employers and coworkers, and discovered just how capable they truly are. From trying new tasks to stepping outside of their comfort zones, every success (big and small) was worth celebrating.
A huge thank you goes to our incredible staff, community partners, employers, and families who helped make this summer possible. Your support creates opportunities that empower students to grow and prepare for their futures.
We are so proud of our Summer JET students and all they accomplished this summer. We can’t wait to see where they go next! 🌟

A little friendly competition and a whole lot of fun! 🎉

A big thank you to Rotaract Club of Birmingham for spending time with the adult participants and joining us for a lively game of bingo at Dr. E’s Place last Friday. Everyone had a fabulous time, especially because each participant went home with a fun prize!

We’re so grateful for community partners who share their time and bring so much joy to the individuals we serve. Thank you, Rotaract, for making the morning one to remember.

Tomorrow and Wednesday, the AT Alabama Conference is being held downtown at the BJCC! 🎉

Join us as we explore topics like assistive technology and AAC, accessibility and inclusion, and real-world strategies for independence and advocacy across education, employment, healthcare, and everyday life.

And please join us on Tuesday night from 4:30 - 6:30 for an Exhibit Hall & Networking Happy Hour that is FREE and open to the public, where you can explore 50+ vendor booths highlighting assistive technology products and program, as well as connect directly with the APT AT team.

It’s hard to believe it’s already been two weeks since Journey of Hope, our favorite night of the year! 🎪✨

But Journey of Hope is more than one magical night, it’s a celebration of the incredible people who make up the United Ability community all year round. What a gift it was to gather together and celebrate our families and participants, honor those who make a difference, and recognize the dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who make our programs and services possible.

Together with your help we:

🎉 celebrated 3 incredible honorees
🎟️ sold 64 auction items
💙 had 196 employees and their guests in attendance
✨ were joined by 550+ community members
🎪 And have raised over $423,700 so far for United Ability!

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this year’s Journey of Hope possible. And while the circus may only perform with us one night a year, your impact can continue all year long.
