This Mental Health Month, we’re sharing the story of Kaci Barber, a Mental Health Discharge Planner at Lee County Jail, whose work helps support individuals as they prepare for reentry and continued care.

As Kaci puts it, “Practicing within this setting has further refined my understanding of the complex needs of an often underserved population, particularly during pivotal moments of transition and reentry.”

NaphCare and the NaphCare Charitable Foundation invited patients to share their experiences through original artwork that sheds light on mental health and the power of artistic expression as a coping tool. Patients, including individuals residing in specialized mental health units, used mediums like watercolor, graphite, and color pencils to tell stories words sometimes cannot.
