More than half of all HIV diagnoses in the United States occur in the South. In 2024, the South accounted for 51% of all HIV diagnoses nationwide, with 629 people diagnosed with HIV in Alabama. In Jefferson County alone, preliminary 2025 ADPH data show 76 new HIV diagnoses.
