The Department of Pathology hosted its tenth annual John Jay Listinsky Lecture in Glycobiology today featuring Kelly G. Ten Hagen, Ph.D., Senior Investigator and Chief, Associate Scientific Director, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institutes of Health.

Ten Hagen delivered the lecture “Mucins and O-Glycosylation in Health and Disease."

Victor Darley-Usmar, Ph.D., Foundation Endowed Professor of Mitochondrial Medicine and Pathology, Senior Associate Dean for Research Compliance and Administration, and Jianhua Zhang, Ph.D., a professor in the Division of Molecular and Cellular Pathology, recently received Project Grant support from both the Health Services Foundation (HSF) and the UAB Office of Research to provide UAB’s research community with state-of-the-art technology for measurement of bioenergetics in organoids and tissue slices.

Mahima Reddy, a graduate student mentored by Adam R. Wende, Ph.D., Professor, Molecular and Cellular Pathology, received first place for the Most Outstanding Poster Presenter at the 13th Annual UAB Comprehensive Cardiovascular Center Symposium for her poster, titled, "O-GlcNAc-MCT4-Lactate Axis Links Cardiomyocyte Metabolic Remodeling to Macrophage Activation in Diabetic Heart Failure."

Andrea Comba, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Division of Neuropathology, recently received a Discovery Grant from the American Brain Tumor Association to support her research on glioblastoma, a deadly brain cancer that is difficult to treat.
