At STERIS, our people are at the heart of everything we do, and today we’re proud to spotlight Sonya, a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor. Sonya began her journey with STERIS as a temporary Associate and, through her dedication, hard work, and outstanding performance, earned a permanent role more than five years ago.
As a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor, Sonya oversees daily shipping and receiving operations, manages inventory accuracy, and leads a team of coordinators. She is focused on driving operational efficiency, maintaining quality and safety standards, resolving shipping challenges, and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
Before joining STERIS, Sonya spent her career in banking, developing expertise in Customer service, financial operations, and building strong client relationships “Joining STERIS marked my transition into the healthcare industry and opened the door to a new area of professional growth,” says Sonya.
Sonya says, “What I enjoy most about my job is that it keeps me on my toes, challenging me to problem-solve, adapt to changing priorities, and learn something new every day. I strive to make a positive impact by helping my team members build confidence and develop their skills while ensuring they feel valued and appreciated. Growing up, my dad always said, ‘If you take care of your people, your people will take care of you,’ and that advice continues to guide my leadership approach today.”
When she’s not at work, Sonya enjoys making memories with her family and discovering new places. She also loves figuring out how things work by breaking them down into their individual components and rebuilding them. A fun fact about Sonya: she once took an entire vacuum cleaner apart and put it back together again—and yes, it still worked!
