Blue Mountain Hospital will be closed on Friday, July 24th in observance of Pioneer Day.

Our Emergency Department will remain open 24/7 for any medical emergencies.

🔥Babylon Fire Update: Tuesday, July 22

📈 Fire Statistics:
Start Date: June 26, 2026
Cause: Lightning
Size: 107,189 acres
Containment: 95%
Structures Lost: 5
Location: 25 miles SW of Monticello, UT

🚒 Resources Assigned:
Total Personnel: 496
Crews: 13
Helicopters: 6
Engines: 2
Dozers: 0
Water Tenders: 7

Current Situation: The Babylon Fire remains 95% contained. Containment means that a wildfire is secured within a perimeter, not that it is out. In the coming weeks, smoke may be visible as pockets of unburned vegetation on the interior of the footprint smolder. Even when a wildfire reaches full containment, heat remains within the fire footprint. Fuels mitigation, fireline, and containment lines established by crews ensure that the remaining interior pockets of heat cannot spread. Crews continue to extinguish or remove burning material close to the fireline by cooling hot spots, stumps, roots, and smoldering debris approximately 200 feet away from the fire’s edge.

Today, hydrologists and soil scientists on the Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team will begin assessing the post-fire effects on forest resources in the south and southeast part of the fire. The team’s analysis will help create models that compare the state of resources before fire and predict changes after the fire. The BAER Team uses this information to determine risks to these resources and create recommendations to address resource needs.



Weather: Thunderstorms with heavy rain are expected to develop. These storms could bring lightning, gusts, debris flows, and increase the risk of flash floods.

Evacuations and Closures: On Monday, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office lifted all evacuation status notifications. All areas previously in READY status have been returned to normal. Land management agencies are continuously evaluating area closures with the goal of reopening affected public lands as soon as firefighter and public safety allows. Please continue to check the Manti-La Sal National Forest website, the Bureau of Land Management Utah website, and the Utah Fire Info website for the latest information on closures and fire restrictions.
