Fernside Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know Fernside has a Resource Library that’s open to the public at our Blue Ash office?

We offer books that support all kinds of grief journeys, including the loss of a parent, child, sibling, grandparent, spouse, and more that are suitable for all ages.

Individuals can easily check out books that suit their needs!

Fernside is proud of our longstanding partnership with County Developmental Disabilities Services and the incredible work they do for our community.

On Friday, June 12, they will be hosting a memorial service to honor the lives lost over the past year. If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP at HamiltonDDSOhio.gov/memorial

A big thank you to KeyBank for spending their annual Neighbors Make the Difference Day at Fernside! 💙

Each year, most KeyBank branches close at noon so their team members can give back. We’re so grateful they’ve chosen Fernside for nearly 20 years! This year, they helped prep materials for our summer programs.

Today’s Fernside Fun Fact Friday is all about our founder, Rachel Burrel 💙

With May being her birth month, we couldn’t think of a better way to wrap it up than by sharing a few of Rachel’s favorite things. She loved Graeter’s Peach ice cream, Coca-Cola, playing the piano, reading books, writing thoughtful notes to staff, and spending time with her grandkids.

Rachel had a deep passion for supporting grieving children, and her mission continues to shine through in the work we do every day.

A small glimpse into the person who helped shape Fernside into what it is today.

This week marked the official end of our Family Program season. Across all five locations, families came together for special closing ceremonies including wands with heartfelt notes, bubbles, treats, and of course, a spirit tunnel send-off 💙

We are so grateful to every family who participated and to each of the locations that opened their doors to us. Your support makes this community possible.

While our Family Program season has wrapped, Fernside is still here all summer long! We offer a variety of opportunities including camps, summer art series, and more.

After 31 years of dedicated service, Vicky Ott, Executive Director at Fernside, will be retiring in June.

Vicky has been part of Fernside for over three decades, including the last 20 years as Executive Director. Throughout her time, she has been a strong advocate for grief services and has made a lasting impact. She was instrumental in leading growth in every facet – expanding the number of group night locations to reach more grieving families, enhancing the types of programs offered to ensure our services were comprehensive and engaging more donors to maintain that our services were offered at no cost. Her commitment to carry out our founder, Rachel Burrell’s vision along with her compassion for the mission and vision to lead us where we are is unmatched.

Vicky’s efforts have helped to ensure that the voices of grieving children and families are heard, valued and supported. Her dedication and leadership will be missed!

Please join us in thanking Vicky for her years of extraordinary service. We wish her all the best in her next chapter!
