🧠 Your physical health and mental health are more connected than you might think.

When pain or limited mobility makes it harder to walk, exercise, work, sleep, participate in activities, or do the things you enjoy, it can affect much more than your body.

Over time, physical limitations can contribute to:
• Frustration and irritability
• Stress and feelings of overwhelm
• Social isolation
• Loss of independence
• Reduced confidence
• Less participation in activities you love
• Changes in sleep and energy
• Feelings of anxiety or low mood

That doesn’t mean physical therapy “treats” mental health conditions—but improving your ability to move can be an important part of supporting overall well-being.

Physical therapy can help you:
🏃 Improve strength and mobility
🦵 Reduce pain and physical limitations
⚖️ Improve balance and confidence
💪 Regain independence
❤️ Return to activities you enjoy
🎯 Set achievable movement goals and build confidence along the way

Sometimes, making progress physically can help you feel more capable in other areas of life, too.

This Mental Health Day, remember that taking care of your body is part of taking care of yourself. You don’t have to wait until you’re completely limited by pain or mobility problems to ask for help.

Your movement matters. Your health matters. And so does your mental well-being.

How much physical activity do adults actually need?

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, adults should aim for 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week, along with muscle-strengthening activity at least 2 days per week.

That movement doesn’t have to happen all at once. Shorter periods of activity count too, and the guidelines encourage people to move more and sit less throughout the day.

Regular physical activity can support better sleep, lower blood pressure, reduced anxiety, improved physical function, and a lower risk of several chronic conditions. For older adults, it can also help reduce the risk of falls and fall-related injuries.

If you’re unsure how to increase your activity safely or what type of movement is appropriate for your needs, a physical therapist can help you build a plan based on your current function, goals, and lifestyle.

🧡 October is Physical Therapy Month! 🧡

But what does that really mean to us?

•To us, physical therapy is about people—not just injuries.

•It’s helping someone get back to the activities they love.

•It’s celebrating the first pain-free morning after months of discomfort.

•It’s helping a grandparent feel confident on their feet again.

•It’s getting an athlete back on the field.

•It’s helping someone move without fear.

•It’s listening when someone says, “Something just doesn’t feel right.”

Physical therapy is about looking at the whole person, understanding what is contributing to their symptoms, and creating a plan that is specific to them.

At Advanced Motion Physical Therapy, we believe you shouldn’t have to simply accept pain, weakness, dizziness, balance problems, or limitations as “just part of getting older.”

We’re here to help you move better, feel stronger, and stay active for the life you want to live.

This Physical Therapy Month, we’re grateful for every patient who has trusted us with their care—and for the opportunity to be part of their journey. 🧡
