In my professional opinion from as many shoulders I’ve rehabbed.. the rotator cuff repair is one of the most painful to overcome. ⚡️

➡️ 6 weeks in a sling
➡️ immobilized = significant muscle atrophy/weakness
➡️ joint capsule tightness if you don’t begin PT right away

Getting range of motion back is a challenge for most and trying to fully relax is difficult when someone else is in charge of your surgical limb.

This is not medical advice from a MD, however, from a doctor of Physical Therapy, study after study have shown that doing physical therapy before surgery can help with postoperative outcomes. Should you feel like your shoulder is able to handle all of your normal and recreational activity with prehab then maybe a surgical repair is not your best option.. especially if there is a 55-88% effective rate for a surgical repair. PMCID: PMC3821158

There are absolutely some cases that would probably benefit from a repair but most getting surgery might be unnecessary.

Hip internal rotation tends to be over looked.

However it’s an important link for
➡️ proper core control
➡️ balance
➡️posture
➡️ pelvic floor function

This might not look like your typical core workout but working your deep core AKA the transverse abdominus and obliques are responsible for stabilizing the spine and bracing during extremity movement.

When you perform sit ups, you are mainly working your re**us abdominus which does not do much to stabilize the spine.. it can create more compression at the spine. 👋 Hello back pain!

I’m not saying sit ups are bad.. they are a functional activity however if you are forgetting to work your deep core, you might be creating other issues.
