We recently came across this graphic from that beautifully explained the difference between somatic movement and somatic therapy and how deeply connected they really are.
As “somatic” has become more of a buzzword online, it can be hard to distinguish what these practices actually mean.
Somatic movement often uses breath, grounding, body awareness, and intentional movement to support nervous system regulation and reconnection with the body. Somatic therapy incorporates those same mind-body connections within a therapeutic framework that may also include trauma processing, emotional regulation, attachment work, and nervous system education.
While they are different modalities, they are rooted in the same understanding: the body and mind are deeply interconnected in the healing process.
The body remembers.
The nervous system responds.
And healing is not purely cognitive.
