Many of us have been socialized to "get on with it" or perhaps our role models have said things like "I managed without any help!". This sort of rhetoric can make us feel responsible when things are tough or aren't working out well. It leads us to feel like "This must be a me thing..." which makes it even harder to reach out.

The reality is that we understand more about human beings, how they thrive and how important the early stages of development are. Because of this knowledge, many of us are pritiorizing the mental health of ourselves and our children and this can take a lot more energy, attention and care. It is very hard work, particularly with the many other modern demands on the individual.

Human beings need community and connection to thrive. We do better when we have appropriate support systems.

There is NOTHING wrong with getting better supported. In fact, it's an important thing to do for yourself and those around you.

You can start simply by a daily "just for you" ritual, scheduling in a weekly Listening Partnership (comment "LP Guide" for our free guide on the topic)

AND/OR

Joining the Hand In Hand Community (comment "HIHC" to activate your two-week free trial), a community of like-minded people ready to support you.

What steps can you take today to better support yourself?

Children deserve autonomy over their bodies—even in the small, everyday moments.

A hug might feel simple to us.
But for a child, it’s a chance to listen to their own “yes” or “no.”

When we honor that choice, we’re teaching something powerful:
Your body belongs to you.
Your feelings matter.
You get to decide what feels safe.

This is how boundaries begin.
Not through big talks, but through small, respected moments.

And when children grow up knowing they can trust their inner voice,
they carry that with them into every relationship that follows.

Connection doesn’t come from obligation.
It grows from safety, trust, and choice.

If this feels new or uncomfortable, you’re not alone.
Most of us weren’t raised this way.

These are emotional skills.
And we can practice them—together.

Every classroom includes students with a wide range of regulation needs.

The constant mover.
The student who zones out by 10 a.m.
The child who melts down during transitions.

Some have IEPs. Some don't. All need support—and that falls on you.

You're juggling behavior plans, parent meetings, paperwork, duty coverage, and late nights prepping. You're asked to meet 25+ different needs with no extra time—and when behaviors escalate, it doesn't stay at school. It follows you home.

You deserve tools that actually help.

The Busy Bodies & Bright Minds Workshop gives you practical regulation strategies that work across your whole classroom, not just for students with services.

In one focused day, you'll learn how to:

Embed movement into academics without losing instructional time
Support regulation with low-cost strategies that fit real school schedules
Use Tier 1, 2, and 3 supports to reduce behaviors before they escalate

No fancy equipment. No added prep time. Just support for the reality you're living.

Live March 6 or on demand. Up to 16.75 CE hours. $179.99 through February 28.

✨The Hand In Hand Tool of "Staylistening" not only builds trust, safety and connection, it also builds emotional intelligence.✨

👉 Staylistening is where we meet our child's offloading by coming in close and conveying our warmth and empathy physically through body language and facial expression (eye contact if safe and comfortable for you and your child) and you Listen without interruption/rationalizing/trying to fix/problem-solving. You simply allow them to follow the very natural process of spilling out their feelings while you Listen and connect. It may feel helpful to say the occasional thing (less is more) such as "I'm sorry" or "That's hard..." but often it's better just to make empathetic noises that show your caring and attention.👈

💕It is freeing to know that you don't need to know what hurt your child is working on, just trust that they are releasing the tension around whatever issues need it.💕

👏This process builds their ability to emotionally regulate when necessary and aids the development of their emotional intelligence. The result is a more clear-thinking, comfortable and relaxed child, and a stronger bond and connection for you both.👏

Comment "Booklet" if you would like to understand more about how children's emotions work and how we can use the Hand In Hand tools to connect and support.
