Vertin For over a century, Vertin associates have supported communities experiencing loss and helped families honor life stories.

We understand the selfless nature of this work, and we’re here to care for you along your journey. Although Vertin Company has grown in many ways, the tradition of providing professional, caring service to families in need, has always remained. Vertin Company is owned by Tom Vertin, a third generation funeral director whose grandfather, Joseph Vertin, Sr., founded Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Tom’s father, Joseph Vertin, Jr., followed in his father’s footsteps at the funeral home. Within his profession, Joe was always respected for his business and professional knowledge. Most important to Joe, however, were the families he served in the funeral home. Caring for families in their time of need brought great meaning and satisfaction to his life. Joe served five generations of families within the community and because of this history, he took great pride in the fact that his work in funeral service was being carried on by his children and grandchildren. In 1967, Tom joined his father in operating the funeral home in Breckenridge. Since that time, Vertin Company has acquired several funeral homes, and is now one of the largest privately-held, family-owned funeral home companies in the Midwest. Because Vertin Company is privately-held, we have longtime stability and financial security. We are not a public company, nor do we want to be. Because we are family-owned, we prefer to work like a family...everyone doing their part to provide excellent service to the families who have entrusted their loved one to us. We are committed to the communities that we serve, and believe that families can be better served through cooperation, not competition. Our hope is that our traditions and philosophies speak to our belief in the future of funeral service.

Introducing the newly renovated Dandelion Room at Ballhorn Chapels in Sheboygan, Wisconsin — a warm, welcoming space designed for gathering, reflecting, and celebrating the lives of those we love.

Life's biggest moments deserve a space built to hold them.

Congratulations to Funeral Director Sheila Gust.

We are proud to congratulate Sheila on earning her North Dakota Funeral Director License.

Since joining our team as a Funeral Assistant, Sheila has demonstrated a natural ability to connect with the families we serve. Her warm personality, genuine compassion, and welcoming presence help people feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they walk through our doors. These qualities, combined with her commitment to learning and professional growth, have made her a wonderful part of our team!

On Call, On Duty, On Labor Day.

Labor Day started as a tribute to the people who keep things running. Ours don't stop for a holiday weekend, either.

To every Vertin associate who's ever picked up the phone on a day "off" — thank you. This one's for you. Happy Labor Day!

Behind every arrangement is a system designed to make excellent care repeatable — training, mentorship, and Shared Services infrastructure that lets our associates focus on the family in front of them, not the logistics behind them.

Excellence isn't a tier at Vertin. It's the standard we build for.

Community connection doesn't happen behind a desk — it happens at the table. One of our Aftercare Coordinators, Jean Sewell, represented Wenig, Ballhorn, and Zimmer-Westview Funeral Homes at "The Longest Table" on the grounds of the Sheboygan County Historical Museum.

The Longest Table is a free event held in communities around the world, bringing neighbors together over a potluck meal to celebrate our diversity, discover our common ground, and build real, non-digital connection — one conversation at a time.

Thank you, Jean, for showing us what it means to be part of the Vertin team — showing up for our communities, not only the families we serve.

Our Buhrig Funeral & Cremation team in Mechanicsburg, PA, recently spent a day giving back, packaging over 1,000 meals for underserved communities and offering a $1,000 donation to Feed My Starving Children.

Our Regional Director, Shawn Smith, and Sales Manager, Pam Tsatsos, traded their usual roles for hairnets and assembly lines to pitch in.

This is exactly what it means to be part of the Vertin team — showing up for our communities, not only the families we serve.

Grief has no timeline, no right words, and no single path.

On National Grief Awareness Day, we recognize every person carrying the loss of someone they love.

Whether your loss is recent or many years ago, know that your grief matters—and you don't have to walk through it alone.

We love it when we get to see some of our leaders in one room, working together toward the same goal. Our Learning and Development team recently hosted a Serving With Intention workshop with a group of Operations managers and will soon be carrying the training forward with local teams across the organization. Thank you to Jay Dietz and Mike Shea for facilitating and to Jason Burlage, Debbie Cottrell, and Troy Brake for joining the table. Investing in our leaders means investing in every team they lead.
