Vertin For over a century, Vertin associates have supported communities experiencing loss and helped families honor life stories.

We understand the selfless nature of this work, and we’re here to care for you along your journey. Although Vertin Company has grown in many ways, the tradition of providing professional, caring service to families in need, has always remained. Vertin Company is owned by Tom Vertin, a third generation funeral director whose grandfather, Joseph Vertin, Sr., founded Joseph Vertin & Sons Funeral Home

in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Tom’s father, Joseph Vertin, Jr., followed in his father’s footsteps at the funeral home. Within his profession, Joe was always respected for his business and professional knowledge. Most important to Joe, however, were the families he served in the funeral home. Caring for families in their time of need brought great meaning and satisfaction to his life. Joe served five generations of families within the community and because of this history, he took great pride in the fact that his work in funeral service was being carried on by his children and grandchildren. In 1967, Tom joined his father in operating the funeral home in Breckenridge. Since that time, Vertin Company has acquired several funeral homes, and is now one of the largest privately-held, family-owned funeral home companies in the Midwest. Because Vertin Company is privately-held, we have longtime stability and financial security. We are not a public company, nor do we want to be. Because we are family-owned, we prefer to work like a family...everyone doing their part to provide excellent service to the families who have entrusted their loved one to us. We are committed to the communities that we serve, and believe that families can be better served through cooperation, not competition. Our hope is that our traditions and philosophies speak to our belief in the future of funeral service.

Families place immense trust in funeral professionals during life’s most difficult moments, and feedback like this reminds us why compassionate care matters.
We are grateful to the families who allow our teams to walk alongside them with empathy, professionalism, and support.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who served our country. Memorial Day can be a difficult day for many families, and we are holding those who are grieving in our thoughts today.

Investing in the next generation is one of the most meaningful things we can do for our communities.

Last week, Alex Waltz, Traveling Manager, had the honor of presenting a $750 scholarship on behalf of David-Donehower & West-Kjos Funeral Homes, Detroit Lakes MN, during the Detroit Lakes Dollars for Scholars ceremony.

Congratulations, to the recipient. We're cheering you on every step of the way.

At Vertin, serving our communities goes far beyond the families we care for each day. It means showing up, investing in local students, and helping build the future of the places we call home.

We're thrilled to welcome our newest associates to Vertin!

At Vertin, we believe that the people who show up for families in their most tender moments are truly extraordinary — and we're proud to have even more of them on our team.

We are so glad you're here.

Some carry it as a title. Others carry it in the way they love, show up, and give of themselves every single day.

This Mother's Day, we're honoring the women of Vertin. The ones who balance the tender work of caring for families with the beautiful work of raising their own. The ones who lost someone they called Mom and carry her with them still. The ones who love like a mother, even without the name.

Every day, they walk into grief with grace. They hold space for strangers on the hardest days of their lives. And then they go home, and do it all over again for the people they love most.

We see you. We honor you. And we are so proud to work alongside you.

Happy Mother's Day, to every kind of love.
