We are seeing more and more PCOS in our clinics recently. Did you know know that PCOS is highly connected to the pancreas? The ovaries are the screen not the projector. The ovaries aren't malfunctioning they are following orders. The order is written by insulin.
Here is how it goes: Insulin runs high, ovaries make more testosterone, insulin lowers the protein that keeps testosterone in check (SHBG), free testosterone climbs and we see hair, acne and missed periods. Some will say "but I'm not overweight" but you don't have to be. Up to 70% of women with this condition have insulin resistance, lean or not, at the tissue level where the scale can't see it . Same driver same fix.
What you were told is there are cysts on the ovaries, a reproductive disorder and manage it with a pill.
What's actually happening: follicles stalled mid development, a metabolic disorder and reverse it by lowering insulin!
PCOS is now PMOS: Polyendocrine METABOLIC O***y Syndrome. The word cyst is gone and metabolic took its place.
Insulin answers to food and movement! What you eat and how you move lowers insulin and when insulin drops a cascade runs backwards. Testosterone falls, SHBG rises and cycles return. No pill rewrites that chain. Your fork and your feet do.
Walking or moving for 1-2 minutes post meals balances insulin. Eating in the sun (even in the shade or cloudy day) balances insulin. Eat slow, little to no liquid with meal. Eat protein first, veggies second and carbs last to prevent the insulin spike!
