Thereâs Something Healing About the Ocean
As mental health professionals, we spend our days holding space for othersâtheir grief, anxiety, trauma, and hope. To continue showing up with compassion, we also need to care for ourselves.
A daily walk by the ocean offers more than beautiful scenery. The rhythm of the waves, fresh salt air, and quiet moments of reflection help calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and create the mental space needed to reset. It reminds us to slow down, breathe deeply, and be fully present.
When we intentionally refill our own cup, we return to our patients with greater patience, empathy, clarity, and resilience. Self-care isnât a luxuryâitâs an essential part of providing exceptional care.
Sometimes the best way to help others heal is to spend a few quiet moments healing ourselves.
đ Take the walk. Breathe deeply. Then pour into others from a place of fullness.
