It's Summer Safety Day Missouri! Today serves as a statewide reminder for Missourians to prepare for severe seasonal hazards, particularly extreme heat, humidity, and thunderstorms. Remember these safety tips to protect yourself and your family during summer heat:
✔️When the temperature & humidity soar-drink plenty of water and limit alcoholic beverages.
✔️Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-colored clothes.
✔️During heat & humidity-limit outdoor exposure & avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day.
✔️Never leave children or animals unattended in a vehicle.
✔️Monitor the weather forecasts and seek shelter before the storms develop.
✔️Check on vulnerable groups: children, elderly and those who are more susceptible to heat.

☀️ Today is Summer Safety Day in Missouri and next week we are anticipating heat index values to hit 100+ degrees. 🥵

The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency & the U.S. National Weather Service encourage everyone to pay attention to local forecasts and plan accordingly when working or participating in activities outside. Humidity can amplify the feeling of heat measured by a heat index, so it is especially important to keep a close eye on friends & family & know the signs of heat-related illnesses.

💚 PTSD Awareness Month 💙

June is PTSD Awareness Month.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect anyone who has experienced or witnessed trauma—this includes veterans, first responders, survivors of accidents, violence, natural disasters, and many others.

PTSD is not a sign of weakness. It is a human response to overwhelming experiences.

This month, we want to focus on:
• Raising awareness and understanding
• Reducing stigma around mental health
• Supporting those who may be struggling
• Encouraging open and honest conversations

Sometimes the most powerful support we can offer is simply listening without judgment and reminding others they are not alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. You don’t have to carry it alone.
