Congratulations to Julio Munoz, MD, FACP, who is celebrating 25 years with Carlsbad Medical Center this month!
Dr. Munoz is a board certified internal medicine physician with over 35 years of experience. He received his medical degree from Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and completed his residency at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in Bronx, New York. In addition to being certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Munoz is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). ACP Fellows are distinguished doctors dedicated to internal medicine. Fellowship both recognizes and honors individual service and contributions to the practice of medicine. He is also UMR Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
In addition to providing care to thousands of patients, Dr. Munoz has been involved with the American College of Physicians for over 30 years and has been an active member of the New Mexico delegation. He has served as Chapter President and Chairman of the Planning Committee. He has also participated as a New Mexico delegate, advocating for congressional support in Washington, D.C. In 2018, Dr. Munoz was the recipient of the NM chapter’s Laureate Award, in recognition of his commitment to excellence in medical care, education and service to his community.
Dr. Munoz has co-authored articles published in area newspapers supporting the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion in New Mexico. He has been instrumental with community and staff education on various subjects including diabetes, hypertension, bioethics, hospice and end of life issues.
As a longtime hospital leader and member of the Medical Staff at Carlsbad Medical Center, Dr. Munoz serves on several committees and is actively engaged in the Department of Medicine. He is the Chair of the Patient Safety Committee and the Risk and Infection Control Committee. Dr. Munoz has also served on the hospital’s Board of Trustees for several years.
